Hi,

Firstly, forgive me for asking a question that has probably been asked before although i cant find it!

I have done lots of reading (mainly here) and had decided to go for a Pic Fun as a cheap way of getting started and able to upgrade fully as i got on with it (hopefully). I made a few calls and spoke a LHS who said the Hummingbird would be a better buy as the new (?) version has separate components and doesnt use the picboard which would cost a considerable amount to change in the future when/if i go for CP. He tells me there isnt a CP upgrade for the Hummingbird yet but does expect there to be one.

Now i have found that the Pic (and therefore the fun?) can be changed to separates as well.

So now i am very confused!

So you know, this will be my first heli, i have downloaded a sim, one that was highly spoken about on here, just dont ask me which one!

So what do I buy? Which is going to cost less in the long run to upgrade? Which is going to be easiest to get to grips with?
Out of my 2 nearest LHS 1 sells the Pic the other sells the H'bird so no probs with getting spares.
Thanks for bearing with me on my marathon (first) post.

The hummingbird is more stable and a better flyer than the pic in my opinion. The HB is alot smoother also. You can also use some of the upgrades for the pic on the HB.

Thanks spooky.
I have just picked up the HB today. I really couldnt make up my mind, so good to know i made a good choice.
I am already having a load of problems with it, seems to be a prob with the TX, the charger has the wrong plug, no charger for the TX, so am yet to even get servos moving.

The board has speed controls for the main and tail rotors. It also mixes the two signals so that when you increase main rotor power it also increases tail rotor. If your transmitter has heli mixing, you can use two separate ESC's and don't need the board, although if you don't already have the ESC's, the board is as cheap as two ESC's. If you want separate ESC's, and your transmitter doesn't have heli mixing, or you just don't want to mess with setting it up, you can get a heading hold gyro, which doesn't need mixing. I already had a lot of GWS equipment for my planes, so I just bought the base HB, and a CSM HLG200 heading hold gyro. It works great, and if you haven't flown helis before, the HH gyro makes it easier when you are starting out.
