Actually, to be neutral, the thrust line has to pass through the Center of Drag, not the CG. These two may be close, or in the case of airplanes like the Seawind and the Northstar, quite far apart.

Consider also that the original Dave Platt Dualist and both the Pica and the Cox Dualists had downthrust in the engines, which raised the thrust line relative to the center of drag. I am assuming that the new Northeast Dualist is set up at 0 - 0.

The key point is that if this same setup works well in the Twin Airs, and it should work just as well in the Dualist.

Jim

I was just curious because I noticed an upward shift in the nacelles thrust line to allow for better prop clearance - curing a knock against D. Platts original Duellist 2/40, especially with the downthrust jrf mentioned.

I am currently scratch-building a Duelist 2/40 MkII (redesigned after his PICA departure) from the Model Airplane News plan #FSP 05783. I was anxious to use this later design because Platt removed all the incidence, decalage, and thrust angles making everything "0". Even the thrust line is centered through the wing's chord. I redesigned the nacelles so the fuel tanks are partially housed within the wing structure (yes, I strengthened the wing) allowing the engines to be located closer to the CG and center of aerodynamic force. Many of the planes I've seen came out nose heavy as a result of the firewalls being far enough forward to put an adequate fuel load inline ahead of the wing's leading edge.

Your not going to get the Dualist 60 from Northeast Aero, their web site says they have been in business for 35 years and due to the slow economy, they shut their doors, with no way to contact them now. So sad. After watching it fly, I would gladly cut my own and scratch build it if I had a set of good plans.

OK I do have a set of plans for the dualist II. You would have to scratch build it, but in my opinion it is worth the time and effort. Can't remember the guys name that originally designed the plane. Someone on here will remember his name.He was a scale genius and entered a lot of contests. His name is on the tip of my tongue and I can't remember his name.

...i've built several 40 size including the cox ARF (awful!)...the kits are wonderful...they supply lots of balsa blocks and you carve an airframe out of them.....they fly like a twin pattern ship...i can only dream of how good a 60 size 80+ " would be....bo

I have the plans for the Duelist 2/40 that are very incomplete as far as rib and former patterns. Would love to build this airplane if I could come up with the full size patterns. Logair

FWIW, i have two of the Super Duelist kits from the original thread here at RCU (still sealed), i think i paid around $180 with shipping for each.

I don't ever see myself actually building both, let alone one of them so if anyone is interested, send me a PM and i'll let one go...

have to check to see if plans were included, they might have been an extra item, dont remember its been so long....

Please note: I sold the one kit I was willing to part with!

Hi Robby !
Lots of reading and pictures on the SD 260.

Some where in that pile of stuff there was some files/pictures of formers and ribs and etc done and posted
from the 2/40 Duellist. Size was of not a problem as they were identical except to have been blowen up to fit the 2/60 SD.Here is the start of the Super Duellist 2/60 as from William Robison (RIP Bill !)
and as I bought numbers 11 and 12. dh

I didn't know that NE Aero put any under the name Super Duellist 2/60 ......but could have after March 8,2003

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_507841/anchors_507841/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#507841
and here..............
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_507841/anchors_507841/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#507841

The NE Aero Story on the 2 /60 Duellist or the Duel Air 60 is here on Post 657 !
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_507841/mpage_27/key_/tm.htm but they may have as evidenced by
the following statement from Bill Robison.
-
Northeast Aerodynamics had the intention of marketing it under the name "Duel-Air 2/60," but they have recently decided to keep the name Duellist instead of Duel-Air for the plane. Even under the name Duel-Air the most that has been on the web site was "Coming soon, the Duel-Air 2/60" with no further information. One of their stated reasons for going back to the Duellist name is elimination of some of the confusion engendered by having two names for the same airplane.
