Hi everyone,

We'll i'm building a new SPAD and a website as well.

http://www.wichitapilot.com/page.php?pageid=11

Have a look and tell me what you think!

It's a cross betwen the SPA3DT and the original SPA3D. I've cut foam core wings to see if I can get it to glide better than the original. The wings are covered in Tyveck.

I'm not sure about the weight. Looks like this one is coming in at 4.9 lbs with 5 servos. Looks like that weight is typical. I was hoping for 4-4.5 lbs though.

The maiden flight should be some time this week if the wind dies down here in KS.

Chris

Looks great! What did you use to get the Tyvek to stick to the foam, 3M spray? Have you used the same set up on a combat bird?

Looking forward to the flight report!

Blue skies,

DL

I used the Elmers Poly glue. It works great. The trick is figuring out how much glue to use. I find that if the tyveck is just wetted out that is a little too dry. It should have a thin layer of glue.

A trick I recently discovered was to spray the outside of the tyveck with water prior to putting the wax paper on it when putting it back into the shucks. This allows the whole thing to slide around and gives you a wrinkle free finish.

I think this would be great on a combat rig. The T section I bought to build something combat.

The method of cutting a slot in the foam core seams to work best for sliding coro in for ailerons.

Awaiting the flight report and hopefully a video.

Ok. There is a video at the bottom of the page....Wicked control throws. I'll be using low rates for the first trip around the patch.

Maiden should be Friday.....

I just finished my SPA3DT using all coro. You are right it is no glider but I love the way it flies anyways. I really do like the look of your wing though. I wish I had the ability to cut foam like that. Also It looked like you did not use the 1" aluminum tube. How would that wor and could you use that with your wing design? It definately looks cool! I wouldn't worry about the high and low rates. I started out with my low rates at 75% and quickly switched to the full 120%. My ailerons almost touch the ground on the low side and I love it. Nothing like a barrel roll from high alpha 2 feet off the ground!

I flew the bird for the first time today. Flight report and video have been posted. Have a look:

I think the CG needs a little adjustment, but what a blast!

More to come.
