Hey Guys, I just finished my 25 size Bobcat and I put on a 9X6 APC pusher prop on it. To my surprize the tip of the prop was only about a half of an inch from the ground. I didn't think I would have enough room for rotation so I cut a inch off the prop for proper clearence and now have a 8x6 prop haven't tryed to fly it yet. Has anyone else have one ready to fly? I sure would like to know how it flys with a 8x6. Better yet what is anyone else using for a prop.

Need advise, Thanks

I'm about 1/2 way with my build as I am documenting it with many pictures...

Half an inch is cutting it close.

I'll report back with what I come up with.

BTW: If you are going electric you do not need to use PUSHER props... one of the advantages of electrics...

Instead turn a standard prop around, and reverse the motor direction...

That means you are able to use standard electric 3 bladed props, etc.

I wish we could do this with glow engines.

I finally figured out the prop problem on my 25 size Bobcat. There are two hardwood blocks that are glued onto the platform where the motor is mounted. They are about 1/2 inch high which raises the motor up high enough to run a 9x6 prop without hitting the ground. I missed that in the instruction pictures. I am going to fly this bad boy for the first time This Sat. I will let you guys know how it did. That is if doesn't rain.

Tailspincharlie, Happy flying

I'm curious what make/model of electric motor did you use for your plane?

I'm just about done and used an AXI 2820/10 (1200kv) outrunner. I tried an 8x8 and a 8x6 prop and the 60amp ESC kept shutting down at about 80% throttle.

I hate to drop down to an 8x5 or 7x5...I really wanted a speed demon.

Ideas?

Put a Watt meter on the ESC.

You need to determine WHY it shut down.

If the power draw with the motor exceeded 60A ( which I seriously doubt as this motor is rated at NO MORE than 30A ) then the shutdown was appropriate.

It is more likely however that the motor shut down because the on board BEC is insufficient to drive all of the servo's used on the Bobcat.

I had to use a seperate dedicated BEC to power the servos to prevent the same.
