Hi all am building a Yak-3 (1944 model) from 3d photos and am at the stage of selecting the wing foil to be used.

I am looking for at the NACA2316 (Root) & the NACA2317(Tip)

or the

s8086 & 86 (Have used this before in a Sports skale aircraft and was good)

Size of the aircraft is as follows

Span:65.7 inch
Estimated weight 10 - 12 Pounds (Depending UC)
Engine used will be a ST/91 or 75 2 str.

Any sugestions welcome as to any other Airfoils to be used.

Regards
Erick

[/QUOTE]If you meant to say S8036/S8037 root/tip instead of S8086, my vote would be yes, use them since they were designed by the good Dr. Selig for model airplane use (TopFlite P-47)

The NACA 23 & 24 series works well but are actually full scale airfoils and aren't optimized for model use. The airplane specs you mentioned are close to what the P-47 specs are so you can't go wrong emulating what a very knowledgeable designer has already done. I have used the S8036/8037 on a couple of own-designed models and they worked VERY well.

That's my $00.02 worth anyway.

Re: Yak3-Wing foil selection

Thanks DICKEYBIRD. You are correct! I meant to say S8036/S8037 root/tip instead of S8086

Will start cutting the ribs tonight.
