Does anyone know how to bypass the E-board, to provide power to the receiver, so I can make sure it still works. I've got a schematic of the wiring, but it doesn't show a battery terminal on the RX, unless it's that orange wire (although that doesn't really make sense, it needs a ground to work). I know the E-board is fried! Removed it from the bird, and found some lands burnt up, (near a rectangular tan part, top right, just to the left of where the battery input wires are).
I'd like to just replace the main motor ESC, maybe 25 or 35 amp unit, I don't think I'm ready for BL yet. Would that work without the E-board, if the RX still works? Can get one at the LHS 15min away. What do you think, feasable?

Rick

I'm not 100% familiar with with the Axe, but this is to the best that I know. On the eboard there is probably a gyro, so if you want to eliminate it you are going to need a seperate gyro for the tail. You will also need 2 ESC's one for the main and one for the tail. If the ESC's come with BEC's (the power to the receiver and the servos), you will have to disable one of them by removing the center pin from the servo connector. The way the power is feed into the receiver is through the center pin (usually red) on the throttle and/or rudder channel. So the center pin is positive and the darker wire is the ground or negative, and the lighter wire is the signal wire. They usually take 5vdc, so you can power them up with anything that is 5vdc that is small enough so you can connect it without it sharting out.

a 25 to 35A ESC sounds good to me, although I dunno what the resistance is on that stock motor. just take 12.6v and divide it by the resistance of the motor, so say it is 0.5 ohms, it could draw a max of 25.2A. If you are using a brushed motor you could also fuse it below the max A supplied by the ESC, for example if you have a motor that will draw the 25.2A and you have a 25A ESC, put an inline mini spade automotive fuse rated at 15 or 20A between the ESC and the motor. To draw 15A your heli would have had to have hit the ground with the throttle at power.

GL and I hope this helps.

OK, Here's an update, RX is ALIVE ! Stole an ESC out of another project, plugged it in to the RX (slot-3), plugged in a 6 cell 3000mah NiMH battery (that what the ESC is rated for), and wholla, servo response. Didn't have the main motor plugged in, but I did test it earlier out of the AXE.
Ordered an EVO 20 ESC from Tower, this doesn't have the auto-cutoff (so no dropping out of the sky when voltage drops), just a nice bright LED to warn you to land now, (or face NEWTON'S LAW of GRAVITY)! Now I just wish we could buy'em online, and they could "BEAM'EM" to us, no waiting ! "Scotty, I need more power!"

Shadow99-

Hey if you want to go separates, Futaba has a G190 gyro coming in at around $62, or any simple yaw gyro will give you the same as the 3 in 1 did. If you want a HH gyro, the Futaba GY240 would be my recommendation. I think the stock tail motor will work with a GWS 5A ESC. I think the orange single wire is for your gyro input and tail motor control, but verify this first before you connect the tail ESC to slot 5. Clear as mud???

You can get cheap BL motors from UnitedHobbies.com if you're willing to wait. Be sure they have many in stock before ordering. I also have a tail motor and gearbox conversion from GWS that I think will work fine and save the $25 Tower wants for a replacement motor.

ps, one more thing. BarnSpeed hobby store in Lee,MA is worth looking into. AxeCP parts cheap, tax included on sticker price. Stock main motor $10, all from Helimax. Also wall to wall helis of all kinds, aisles are full and it's shoulder to shoulder walking thru the store, but well worth the trip.

Already have the Futaba GY240 & ElectricFly C-12 micro ESC on the tail. Hopefully the new ESC for the main will be in next week sometime. I require a chaparone when visiting hobby shops, especially ones packed with heli's, I got 2 within 10 miles of me now, they're just not packed with heli's (they dabble in heli's). I visited Helidirect in E. Boston last week, I had to be "escorted" out by my co-worker, who was embarassed cause I was drooling on myself , and required a bib.

Wow! R/C mags must be like porn to you then! (Oh, man, that's one nice set of rotors; and what a great tail.)
