Sport-
an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Can someone tell me that RC isn't a sport after you read the definition of the word a few times?

We have to do more physical work that world champion chess players and thats a sport. And doesn't wrenching all day get tiring? Especially on the fingers and wrists. Its not aobut the magnitude, its just fact, anything competitive that requires skill is considered a sport.

I have more RC cars, boats, planes, hovercrafts, and submarines than I can remember at this moment without going home and doing a stocktake. But since I dont compete or even run at the same time with friends, it will simply be a hobby for me. I dont think of them as toys, but i describe them to others as such.

It will never be a sport to me because I just run them about in the street or forest by myself. Im not competing against anyone or anything. If someone asks if i "play sport", I say no. And toys are something adults buy for their children to play with, so cheap rc cars from KMart are toys IMO.

Why does it have to be either a TOY or SPORT? Why cant it just be a HOBBY? Its just something we all like being involved in? We dont go to TOY shops or SPORTS shops to by kits or parts.

We visit HOBBY shops dont we?

Nobody's trying to offend anyone here, but the posts keep coming because it's such a ridiculous subject. It shouldn't have even lasted a breath, like; "those toys we play with, does this make us sportsman? Are we playing a sport?" and the answer should have been a resounding "No".

However, as you put it yourself, you, and many others, are totally immersed in the hobby, you work with toys all day in a hobby shop. If you spend your life living inside the box, you can never see outside it, nor look back upon what it really is.

They are still toys, it'll never be a sport - only in the minds of those who are unable to perceive things from another perspective.

Chris.

i poked holes in the box so it would look like a robot,,,then i walk around going whats my perspective im a robot danger will robinson!
and the fact that people are exchanging on a serious level validates the fact of the thread ...

ill bet that any big roar or ifmar racer wouldnt have the same thoughts as you ,,,well im sure of it ...

the fact that people need to type a answer like the one you have typed shows the seriousness of the NEED TO MAKE IT A TRUE SPORT!
think of baseball ----um hitting a little ball with a stick ,,didnt that start in the streets of new york,,stick ball

in 1846 a team they called the nicks brought baseball into our lives on that 14th of june the fans all cheared and clooned when baseball entered our lives...something like that ___i had to sing that in a school play in third grade...lol

ILL bet the OLD people ****ing about the kids in the street never thought it would of ended up like it did ,,,think of the premiss
you throw the ball ill hit and run this way ,,,,,,then ill stand here and wait till another hit then ill run COME ON BASE BALL WHEN YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT IS STUPID ,,,but america's past time...and a so called true sport of over payed regular guys ..

the tuning REQUIRED to win at a national level IS IMMENSE,,,the tires --the camber --the caster---the toe--the engine tuning
the shock tuning -the fuel--the glow plug --tire setup--batteries--controll expodentials---servo's---temps ---wheather--
bearings---oils,,,settings ---roll--ride heighth---OMG i dont even like to think about it i have to race saturday and i am working on other vehicles------

doesnt take that much to kick a soccer ball or shoot a hoop or hit a baseball,,,

so take that ---another post bites the dust du du dun dun dun another post bites the dust ,,

and im a stupid tattooed hobby guy ......blah blow your doors off on race day sucka .....

all that and i still have time to play SUBLIME -------my other hobby which isnt a sport...

So what makes playing with an instrument different from playing with a toy?

I am very well spoken and I do think all of my posts through BEFORE I type them, this ensures they make sense. I like to speak out in a mature manner as I like people to take me seriously, for example; you never need to use more than one commer, like so ',,,,' it's gramatically incorrect. The more serious you come accross the more respected you become, and by using incorrect spelling, grammar or larger exaggerated texts makes you look immature and you points of view are considered less by the reader.

This is not a serious manner, it's a means of help. I, for example, am trying to work out how other people can consider this a sport. The facts aren't important, neither is the subject, because the outcome is already decided. This thread is a sorry insight into people who genuinely believe that playing with toys holds as greater importance so as to be recognised, and it's nothing to be respected for in this world - at least, nothing considering the effort needed in a true sport.

Chris.

You spelled "comma" wrong.

Since you say RC isn't a sport and facts aren't important then soccer isn't a sport is it? Kicking around a ball on grass is no kid of sport.

ok...i dont feel like rereading this whole thread again, so ill just say this...forgive me if i already said this.

depending on how you personaly define sport, it can be either or. if you say sport is an athletic competition, then rc is by no means a sport. if you say a sport is a skill competition, then rc has every right to be a sport. its all personal preferance and how much you like it. youll get more "sport" answers on here because its an rc site, but if you ask an average joe they will probly say toy.
