The Jalapeņo Plans are ready!

What is the Jalapeņo you ask? Well, let me give you a short description:

FUN!

OK, maybe a better description is in order:

Try, a 23.5" wingspan, profile, foam, parkflyer with a roll rate of 2 rolls per second, will perform some 3D acrobatics (8 ounces of thrust with weight of 7.5 ounces) and flies for at least 4 minutes but up to 15 minutes per battery charge, depending on the battery you choose.

Still interested? Let me wet your wistle a bit more!

Airframe can be built in 3 hours, from scratch! Yes, that really is 3 hours out of your material!

But the material must be expensive, right?

Wrong, total airframe material cost is less than $3.00!!! Wow, $3.00 and all available at your local hardware and craft stores.

Why have I not seen more on this airplane or company?

I am a small business working out of my garage. I can't afford the big advertising larger companies do.

If you want more info on the Jalapeno, or to see in-flight video, other plans available, or see about the CONTEST, visit me at my web site. Click on the www button in my profile area (sorry, can't post web site url, that would be advertising you know: )

Happy landings,
Mike

Mike, that sounds great!
Does the plane need a expensive brushless motor system?

Don,

Forgot the best part of the whole set-up!

The plane uses the GWS IPSD 7.2 volt dual motor system which costs in the neighborhood of $22.00 and only draws 4 amps so the GWS 100 esc at $18.00 works great. So power is provided by an inexpensive 6-8 cell 280-750 mAh NiMH battery (I buy my cells for about 1.50 each) and $40 in motor/esc.

(LiION or LiPOLY can also be used very successfully on this plane!)

NO EXPENSIVE Motor set-up there. Since I'm not over-driving the GWS motor system, I have had no life problems with the GWS drives! I have over 40 flights on the current motor/battery/esc set-up and it is just breaking in good!

Mike

Phil,
The design itself would lend itself to a gas engine, but the construction method used would not. The fuselage is made from foam core board otherwise known as sturdy board. This would not hold up to the beating the Norvell would give it. Make the fuselage out of 1/4" light balsa, you could do it. I would also think you should make the stabilizers out of balsa as the extra airspeed gained by the Norvell would tear up the tail.

This little jewel is really intended for the GWS IPSD electric motors. I fly it right in front of my house all the time. No neighbors calling the police due to noise problems. I keep a LiION battery pack charged all the time so when I get the urge, I can fly without all the fuss! If you have never tried electric, this is a GREAT way to start. Contact me for all the details on starting your electric Fun Fly adventure!!!

How do you cut the foam?

Scole,
I use .020" Nichrome wire and a 12 volt power source such as a car battery charger. As long as it can develop between 3 and 4 amps of current across the wire. You can view my foam "slicing" device at www.foamflyers.com

I move the foam through the slicer rather than the wing core method of moving the bow around the plug ends. This way I can cut foam as thin a 1/32" or as thick as I need for the project I'm working on. Sliced foam comes out near perfect every time, but it takes a bit of practice to get it just right. I still make some mistakes.

Now the Jalapeno wing is hollow in the center and is very near symetrical airfoil. To fold the foam is a different story! Plans and instructions are provided to get you through this step! It is really quite simple!

Hey, moose:

Just checked your site.

The plan is $10, the kit is $35. That is a difference of $25 for the material that you said was only worth $3.

If we apply that $25 to $3 ratio to your plan, then the plan should only cost $1.20, right?

Bill.
The $3 cost of materials doesn't include it all coming cut out and in ARF form... Still seems like a great deal to me.

I'm wondering about 3D...What about a bigger motor? I want it to pull out of a hover. What about Knife edge?

Seems like it might be comparable to the Radical RC Edge with the right motor...I sure loved that plane!

The "kit" is an ARF, meaning I spend about 1.5 to 2 hours of the 3 it takes to build this plane making sure you have a plane that will go together very easily. I have thought about a "materials only" kit, but I have not taken that plunge yet! By paying the additional $25, you are paying me for the time I am spending away from my Experimental Tigermoth construction!

BotleRocketWar:
I have not found it to accellerate out of vertical with the stock motor, but others have with the right battery combo. Three LiPoly cells is said to do the trick. I am afraid the GWS motor would have limited life at that voltage. I'm sure it would be a good 3D performer given the right pilot and motor set-up.
