5lb Cub? Cheap .40? Definitely not a .15 and I wouldn't try it with a .25.

with a 5lb plane on floats you need at least a 25 a 10x5 or 10x6 would be worth a try, 6 to 8 oz tank. and diesel would be a consideration also, with the added torque it would give the
umph of at least a 35 glow martin and Cyclic is right a 25 is marginal 5lbs is a 40

Hey, what brand and size is this? may not be as heavy as you think? I fly this thing with a.15CVA. More than enough power. They say flying weight is 32oz. I doubt I'm much past that substituting eng and tank for those heavy batteries.

What is the wingspan ? I'm thinking more like a 40/46 as well.

If it weighs 5 lbs I would use a .46. If this was electric you must have had a real powerful setup. I would recheck the weight like Cyclic Hardover mentioned. I am thinking a .15 would be used on a 2 lb plane. (32oz).

The OS .40LA puts out a max of 1 hp, that's 746 watts, which is a lot of battery.

I'm going to have to schedule some time to be around you or Mr. Davis when you or he flies a Diesel conversion. I have yet to have a converted glow to Diesel engine produce as much power as glow, much less more. It's not that I don't give you fellows the benefit of the doubt, but your experience runs contrary to mine.

I agree that 5 lbs. OAW would be forty territory. Of course, the wingspan/wingarea also makes a difference.

What is the size of this Cub? Wingspan? Wingarea?

I think a .25 FX with a 10x4 would be the minimum. 40 is more like it.

....I'd put a K&B .61 in it, or a Magnum .91 four stroke. Seaplanes have almost
twice the drag on them when airborne, and getting airborne takes a lot of power.

A .40, even a ,46 would be minimal in any 62 inch plane, much less a seaplane.

I thought about that but never owned one. Would think they take a bit of "oomph" to get off the water.
Bet they slow down good. Plenty of runway eh? Thing about floats is they can make the ugliest plane look real good.
