I have about 4 4200 NiMH packs by integy, all of which I assembled myself. The cells say a 6amp charge and a 20 amp discharge. I have the Brain set to 6 and 10 because well 10 is the max on the brain. 3 out of the 4 packs now leak and hiss after only the second or third charge discharge cycle. It charges my 12v lead acid and my 2400 NiCD just fine. I know that you can dmg the cells during assembly if you over heat them but I made sure that the solder joints were done quickly and kept fairly cool. Is there anything that I'm missing and are my 3 packs pretty much fried?

Hi, welcome to RCU. Probably the solder nor the charger is at fault and may be due to cells being imbalanced. If they've already vented or hissed then they are probably already hurt, but the correct thing to do is to do a c/10 charge for 15 hrs with a wall charger (one that doesn't turn off automatically) After that they can be charged at 6 amps and 5 mv per cell.

Ya I did a 420ma charge and let it charge for about 14hrs. let it sit for an hour then tried a discharge at a rate of 10amps. which is half what the battery is labled for and about about 2 min started to hiss. And a different cell than before :-(

Hmm, sounds bad. Like there's at least 2 or more bad cells now.

Have you checked the voltage in each cell? Are yuo sure you have the cells arranged properly? Sometimes with new cells, if the voltage is really low, you may experience "cell reversal". If you try to charge with the cells in this condition, than you very well may damaged the cells. Try to get a voltage reading on each cell.
