RAM,
A question, if y' don't mind... Why wouldn't jus' plain water serve th' same purpose? I can't stand amonia!
Tnx,

The amonia is supposed to make it penetrate the wood better. I'm with you though dog, it stinks so bad that I've always used just water. If the amonia really makes a difference, I wouldn't really know myself.

I use some isopropyl rubbing alcohol in the water, instead of amonia.
I just finished sheeting the fuse and making the doors. I used balsa in the door jams instead of ABS like the plan shows.
I soak the wood and wrap in around something of the same radius (as the corner of the door). When it dries it holds its shape.
Also, I used 1/8 inch radio shack rare earth magnets to hold the doors shut instead of making a latch. They hold the doors firmly shut against the fuse.

Funny how this is going guys I seem to tolerate ammonia and like its benefits aiding in making the balsa considerably, more ply able for lack of another word. and a tendency to be mold able 'more' easily in this way.

Okay!! it stinks

I added the rear portions and for 'ole times sake' I tried windex maybe I pushed it but the balsa cracked- So I went ahead to my current method which is understandably a bit un pleasant a scent none the less it bothers me little and works WONDERS when bending balsa

Well as stated in the last installment I used ,rather re-discovered Windex and like the blond ape inside the cave at what turns out to be the N.Y. shore there is a talking doll which he the ape...chose not to aknowledge and so it is I will stick with ammonia ...sure the smell drives others "ape" but it works BEST.

Interestingly no wetting required at all for the bottom sheeting just a sequence that will save you time and -

Here is a shot of the fuselage nearing completion of sheeting and thinking about an 'access cover' for the mains as mentioned earlier by another great builder doing a Stinson.

Further I have included a photo of Windex send me 19.99 "+" shipping and handling and the jug is yours

Started the transition on the lower Longerons by adding SOFT 1/8" balsa. I'm looking at options with the cowl install and nearing still debating going for the early Gull Wing SR-7 as I've mentioned before, with its "40 Ford" type plate glass very distinctive but beauty is in the eye of the...

I like the 40 Ford look. My IKON SR8 has the same windscreen.
