ramcfarland: Another question, tonight while the epoxy is drying on my fairings, I started on the cowling. I took two sracp pieces, and used the acetone deal you were talking about, and they didn't seem to weld really good together. It seems they welded around the edges, but you could pull them apart with some effort, and the center was nice and dry.
Is there a trick to this procedure, or am I just not waiting long enough? Seems CA would give a better bond. Fill me in on your technique, please? Also did you post any photo's of your cowling? I seen you've got it tape on in one of the photos.
Wow I'm behind the curve here so now we are on the cowling... If this was MODEL AVIATION magazine I would first suggest a face mask for all the plastic "dust-" regarding the cowl,I'm comfortable using Acetone, however,I have a bottle of 'Plasti Zap,' or what ever its called,on order to try out,NOT because I have any problems with the Acetone thing, anyway perhaps Pacers plasti Zap might work better for you.
As requested and my pleasure here are pictures of the cowl to appear as if by magic in a couple minutes right here-
Try another wand here

It's not that I'm not confortable with the Acetone, I just wondered if there was some special technique, that I was missing. I'll try it tonight, and see how it holds up, but I might also dab in some medium CA behind it, and on the inside just to be sure. Photo's looks good.

Thin CA won over on the joining of the Forward and Aft cowling peices. Finally got my tires today, WOW!!! 5 inch tires are much bigger in person, Now I can sorta start on some Wheel pants when I get around to them.
I placed "big bertha" on the floor and suddenly realized just how big she is.

Got all the blisters placed on the cowling tonight, so tommorrow I'll put a little bondo on there, and fill those seams. I've got styrene in every crack/crevice that was exposed. However not in my eyes, as my helper made sure I keep mine and her safty glasses on, at all times.

Early start this morning. A buddy of mine "whose only been flying a 1 1/2 years" decided to build a Top Flite Cessena 182. He decided now that he is in way over his head, and needs help. Unfortunaly most everything has been framed up, and things are not the prettiest. So anyway up early this morning to start a wheel pant on the right side. I'm worried about flying with these at my field, and it is a grass run-way, and these things are flimsy. I put some glass cloth around the attachement point hoping to boost that area some.
However I've gotta place these pants on the bench grinder and raise them up some, or they won't last 2 flights. Once there installed there's barely 1 inch clearance between the bottom of the pants, and the ground. I figure I'll need at least 2 inches, but I'm afaid of how it'll look. Oh well, neccesity is the mother of all inventions.
You'll notice I've not used bondo on anything yet, I figured I'd get everything put together and sanded, then bondo everything at once.
