This evening ,rather yesterday evening,I was planning to get the engine mount 'ready to be drilled for the engine,'however: look at that Top Flite designed right thrust off set,in the last picture unfortunatly I missed the suggestion regarding the firewall set up as covered in the M.A.N.1-2000 Stinson "field and bench,MODIFICATION

Also I was prepared to 'Dremel out the cowl opening' and decieded to first "fill" the (inside how else )frontal cowl ring and I had just the filler that turns even store brand 30 minute epoxy rock hard and add needed stability and rigity...hows that

Richard what type filler are you using on the fuelage? Also earlier back in the forum you were talking about the "Starved Horse" look, do you have a trick for avoiding that? Did you ever decide to "Glass" the front of your plane, I know you were toying with the idea?

This morning I went over everything and sanded a little bit. Also glued the bottom cover to the wheel fairing cover, and put a hole in there for the screw to be reached. I can't really do anything with the top cover till I get the strut glassed, then I'll use epoxy and permenatly glue it to the strut. One thing that did bother me was the obviously lean of the strut, as it's diffinalty not "in-line" with the gear fairing, but upon checking the trusted "Stinson Home-Page", it became obvious that this was the correct look. However I became nervous for about 3 minutes. At least the door opens wide enough, but it will be a squeeze to get into..

Oh well, It's easter so I'm done for today.......

Flying.....what's that. This morning we woke up to nice 15-20 mph wind, then all of a sudden it started snow/raining, now the sun is shining and its about 40 degree's , with a calm 20 mph wind. I hate spring time in Illinois.......next weekend they say its going to get 75 with thunderstorms so I'm hoping flying weather is on its way......planes are charging.....

The "WINDOWS" that I've had to fly here in the Baltimore/Southern Maryland Region club field area would be an Illinios R/C pilot Dream, I'd like a dollar for EVERY TIME I'VE CHARGED MY NIM AND THEN DID NOT GO FLY Why I would have enough money to buy another 9303 JR and this on on 2.4 LOL

Some call it lying..I call it procrastination

Looks good, now what about the cut around the bottom of the cowling? It runs from cheek to cheek almost, and is on the scale bird. Question are you going to attempt the plastic radial engine that topflite says you can cut down and use? I've thought about it, but I'm going to get my G-38 in there first and see how it looks.

I would be a little concerned with how big the front opening is, and how small the rear cooling vent is, and think the plastic Radial engine might help with directing air over the head, and out the back. You supposed to have twice the size exit hole, as the entrance hole right?

To be honest I've not done much today other than hang around the house with family, weather won't permit anything else. However I've been reviewing alot of the building threads on RC Scale builder, and admiring the work those guys do. Especially on the C-123, and C-130's.....those guys go above and beyond on their projects, which is were I would eventually like to be with my craftmanship.

I've probably learned more on this kit dealing with styrene pieces, than anything else. However I'm serioulsy thinking after I get the stinson done, which should be around the beginning of Jun 08, that I'm going to attempt a project like what's on Scale Builder. I would like to do a Cargo Plane of some type, twin and the C-119 would be my first candidate. However those retracts from Century Jet kinda seem steep at $650. However there's a nice 1/12 C-123a, retracts available for $450, Twin, and has some real potential as well. Still I'm hearing that the Palmer plans have some issues....

I really didn't want to get into the "WarBirds twins" like B-24,25, P-38's, stuff like those. Cargo aircraft on the other hand, many were used by civilian cargo company's, and other agencies....I've got all summer to mull it over.

Well there were questions :The filler of choice for this build has been mainly the white shade of filler spread 'all over,'and marketed under the name FAST N FINAL by Dap Prod. The "Epoxy filler,"that I used was to give me both a bond and a higher 'Moho scale hardness,'than the styrene and it worked like a dream I suspect you will get close results mixing Epxy FINISHING RESIN (only) and mircoballons mixed thin enough to pour and be of consistancy as such that the 'mix' flows around the "inside front cowl ring. I was really happy with the results. The kit plastic can work for or against you...I like it-

The photos show the cowl ring being installed and some measurements being taken. Regarding the cooling as it is I will follow Top flites instructions-speaking of which The M.A.N. 01-2000 was spot on with the engine appearing to have up and right thrust. Some serious trimming is in order,on the"cowl."

Thanks for the infor, I'll probably use epoxy with microballoons, as for the consistancey, I'll use by heat gun on a low setting, with short blasts. Carefully to get the styrene hot, but enough to make the mix flow like water. I've used that method on epoxy before, and with a little, I mean a little heat, preferably just using a plain "household" hair dryer will cause it to turn to like water.

You think the very front cowl needs a little extra support? Plane looks good, I'm curious how much triming you'll need to do for the cowling.

Do you know how hard it is to work on a plane in your shop, when you 40 LB "Shop Partner" thinks it's "Spring Time on the Serengeti", it's a little difficult keeping him occupied and away..
