I am looking at building a 50cc Katana that has a flat 3/8" design for the vert and horiz stabs. I want to do a airfoil type one instead. I am wondering which airfoil to use. I got some info from another plane and that uses the NACA 0011, is this correct? If not does anyone know which one I should use for each. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Naca 0011 is pretty slick, but will work. This is a picture of my custom built turbine jet. It uses a Naca 0011 Horizontal Stab, the Vertical is around Naca 13.

If the flat plate worked okay for the designer of the model, the NACA 0011 (fully symmetrical, 11% section with the high point at 35% of the chord) will be functionally better. The improvement wouldn't be earthshattering though so don't expect some type of magical performance enhancement.

However, the NACA 00 series is a standard exponential curve airfoil and has terrific aerodynamic envelope. The NACA 11% on the wing is trully superior for the Katana. It's a great all around airfoil for aerobats of any size. Been using the 10, 11 and 12% for many years with superior results in the overall flight envelope of my aerobatic designs

Seems a good path to follow.

BTW, I got a huge chuckle from your last couple of pictures. I just noticed the color of your gas can and the airplane. There ain't too many model builders who color coordinate all their flying equipment with their airplane.

OK, ok....... I know you didn't, but why would that occur to me? Once upon a time I competed in CL stunt. And some of the guys did just that. They thought it gave a better "presentation". (I figured if the judge was impressed that I wore French camo battle dress when flying my Dewoitine 520 semi-scale, that I really did not want to know it as I still respected the judging back then.) And one competitor made it a point to have outfits that matched his latest competitive airplane. He repainted his flight box to match and his wife even made him shirts and pants to match. And neither of them had ANY eye for color. Dreadful getups and awful looking models.

I did notice that your color choices are lots better.
