I can't think of a more poignant endorsement than that! Think I will have to start planning a build, always liked the 190, was one of the first air frames that came to mind way back when I got interested in the hobby, guess its finally time.

Build up wing for me. The Laser fits perfectly in the cowl.

Mine is almost ready. I have a dle30 in mine and am just setting the cg. I am going to set it at 130 for the first flight. 2 questions, first what did yoursnd come in at weight wise. Mine looks to be in the 16.5 pound range. And where are you measuring the cg from. The flat part that meets the fuse or from the wing somewhere. I have mine set from the fuse i just want to be sure

See page 13 of this thread for a picture of how I measured the CG on my first (all composite) one. This one weighed in at about 17.5 lbs (built up wings are lighter), I was a tad nervous on the first flight but it flew OK.
This one had a 120AX in it, enough power but took a truckload of weight to balance.

Well, after several YEARS of fiddling around my composite version is about ready for its maiden...
Its got Sierra Gear, an Evolution 35cc motor and a bit of a different paint scheme that I will post before first flight.
Hope all of those birds are still crankin well!

Today I maidened my Rote-13 FW-190! I changed the yellow-11 to a red-13. It flew great I must say. Being somebody used to lightweight pattern planes I wondered how it would go but the plane gives good indications when airspeed stars to get too low.

Mine flies with a Laser 200v twin which runs a 18x8 APC. I balanced it at 130mm and total weight is 7.3 kg. For retracts I use v2 ESM retracts with a Lado RS666 actuator.

For landings I use 60 degrees flap and it really slows down well. I need to fly her in with power.

let's see I get some pictures uploaded; I haven't used my computer for a while!! iPad everytime nowadays...

So next time I will have the motorhood on as well. It was now suggested by Laser to leave it off for those first flights.

As you can see I changed the look a bit, it is from the famous ace Heinrich Bar. Interesting guy, not only a top ace (also on the western front!!) but he was actually degraded from major to soldier in 1944. Later re-instated and became a Me262 ace as well.

Has nothing to do with being an ESM plane. Any model of a fw-190 A will require a snit load ofweight up front. The giant size topflite is no different and they even include weights in the box.

Yep, the church is complaining but hey, it is for a good cause! :-)

There is 1200 grams there, will loose 300 gr when I mount the motor hood. I took my CG quite conservative at 130mm, so probably could loose more, however I prefer good flying.

I will do the gram-saving excersizes on my pattern planes!

Btw, in a sense it is completely logical, if ESM tries to build planes scale-like, you must have weight in the nose. In real life, these planes weren't much more then some wings strapped to an enormous engine and a couple of guns.

My ESM 72" FW will be here in a couple of days. I have a couple of questions for you.

The ESM electric retracts are out of stock and I'm looking at alternatives. Would be interested in what any of you have used besides ESM?

Second question - are the main gear 80, 90 or 100 degree actions. thanks.

I have the esm 72"...it has the esm gear installed...however...its the pneumatic versions. The angle is certianly NOT 100 or even 90. Its a decent inward cant as it should be, just no down locks...probably around 80 degrees. The real plane would have 74 degree gear. Sierra giant makes gear for this size esm plane as well as the larger 82.5" 190 d9. For scale...get the sierra giant and the angle will be a bit better(more inward cant. Note the 2nd pic...its the larger d9 with the sierra gear.

These are the sierra gear you would want:

I'm between ESM 190s at the moment I have a broken one and a new one wating to be assembled!

I have Sierra pneumatic retracts in both the 190 (happily they survived the crash that followed an engine problem) and in my Bf109. Like most users I have found these to be very reliable.

Stick mode,

Sure it wasn't off Chch cathedral ????????

I've had Sierra's before and like them. I've been thinking about Sierra's and getting them converted by Down & Locked, to electric. I've also talked to Robart and they have electrics that will work also. Decisions, decisions.

74 degrees Lado retracts

http://www.lado-tech.net/en/rs333/2-rs333-74.html

You need to check if the suplied legs are correct for a 71" plane though. I am only using the actuators of Lado in a ESM set.

Still have to order standoffs for my engine. If you have a DLE30 on your FW, could you tell me how long your standoffs are? Thanks.

I have the same engine you do and both the side and pitts mufflers. Haven't decided which to use yet. it looks from the picture you have doubled up the standoffs. what is their total length to get the cowl-prop spacing to come out correct? Also, how much, if any weight did you have to add for the cg. thanks, Steve

I have a DLE 30 on my ESM. I used a 7cm standoff to give some space to the carburator. You have to use a pitts muffler as the standard DLE muffler will restrict the installation of the cowling due to the engine width with muffler installed. I used a lot of weight to balance but  I tried to place them as far forward as possible.

Sorry. I retook the measurements. The standoff is 6.8cm and I still have 8.4mm clearance between spinner to cowl and 17.4 mm prop to cowl. Here are some pictures of the placement of the weights. I used 90 degree sheet metal angles fixed to top screws and fixed the lead to them using screws with lock nuts. The overall weight came out 7.4Kg balanced at 13.5cm. I am also using the ESM air retracts with the ESM wheels having aluminum hubs which is extra weight. Maiden flight planned for April when the weather is better at the flying field.
