Why would it piss me off? Its not my plane...

as to fix the door collars, I would make a new collar, made from a piece of soft metal, wrapped around the strut and JB welded to it (or epoxy or just about anything) with very small blocks coming off of it with just enough meat to run the screws thru it to attach the door. Check out the image I posted of the real door and how it is attached to the strut.

I would wonder if the door collars from Serria would fit the KMP struts... they are onlu $25 for 4, so you would need two sets. I know they are too big as well, but they are better than those massive blocks KMP provides.

Thanks for the tip merlin I may try to tig weld some tabs on the gear as well I will have some thought into this endeavor before I act.

I dont see why at least Sierra couldnt machine these tabs into their gear they make such fantastic gear for the larger FW-190's I would
have also liked to see the upper scissors on the sierra gear as well but it is not. I am not a machinist but I wouldnt think that the few extra
steps for the gear door tabs would be that big of a deal.

Probably to keep the costs as low as possible. Not like that is saying a lot with the Serria gear...

You need to set up some type of down link (the top scissor) on the struts. It adds so much more to the plane. Its actually easy to set up one.

Think of it this way, take two light pieces of blasa. Attach in the middle on a hinge of some type (robard mini-pin hinge maybe?). Make sure it can only bend in one direction (so it cant foul gear retraction)Attach the bottom to the strut in a manner similar to the gear door. For the part of the strut that runs up and into the wheel well, round the end of it.

When the gear comes down, by gravity alone, the down link will unfold automatically. When the gear retracts the rounded edge of the top of the link will act as a type of runner, collapsing the downlink on itself.

Cheap, easy to do, and if something really goes wrong, the balsa struts used for the downlink will snap away and not mess things up too bad...

Careful with the tig, I don't know much about it, but heating those struts from KMP would be a bad thing as they look thin and probably wouldnt' handle the heat too well. You could actually just directly attach the door to the strut and build up the collars out of plastic or something.

Some guy on the ntroplane fw190 had this really cleaver strut made from parts of a ballpoint pen...that might be worth shecking out.

Shafs,
Give R/C Headquaters a ring in Werribee on 9974 2461 or here is a link to their site http://www.rcheadquarters.com.au/. They were advertising the cheapest i saw around. The trouble will be that Model Flight only got a certain number in and they were all pre sold to hobby stores a month before they landed in the country, so grab one quick from where ever you can. I paid $600 for mine here in Alice Springs. Roj's in Fairfield didn't know anything about them and missed out on getting some.

Hey Guy's

This is a serious problem with our Aussie importer of ESM kit's. They did the same thing with the Bf-109 and i missed out. when i contacted them to find out when the next shipment was, apart from being borderline rude ( and we have an account with them), they said that was it, no more coming in!!!! And now they are doinf the same thing with the Fw-190???

I wish ESM/YT/KMP would give them a kick up the you-know-where, and tell them they are costing them sales in Oz!!!

Thanks

dave

P.S. Safts, my 'stang repairs are almost done. just have to weather, and clear coat. still waiting for the robart replacement parts....

Shafs,
Probably shouldn't tell you that i have a NIB ESM Spit in my garage then....The two reasons it's in its box untouched is 1. The cowl was damaged and it took Model Flight five months and a couple of emails to Alanc (one of the most helpful blokes on here) in the UK before I got a replacement and then RCV said about the elusive 130CD which are soon to be in Aus (approx 3-4 weeks as the first batch has already shipped to the US), so other projects have come first. All my dealings with Model Flight regarding ESM up to and including getting the FW 190 have been rude with never any of their promised return phone calls. I have had the Seafury, Spit, B-25 and now the Wolfe. It really is bad service and if I could I would deal with some other company. It's painful to read about the Pom's and Yank's (no offence intended) getting excellent customer service and even a choice of components (eg retracts and scale accessories) with their kits and we get the basic with poor service and backup. That said if you get Mike O'Riely on the phone (which eventually i did) you get fantastic help. All the aircraft have been one off batches imported to the best of my knoweledge except for the Stuka which came in two shipments. The supposed reason is the economics of full shipping container loads verses customer base which is why i said grab one while you can.

i agree we are a small market. but where i fly there is no lack of wanting these KMP models. i have members saying the same thing i tried to get one with no luck. so some one is not reading the market.

and be good to that spitfire. i found the guys in canada to be very helpful with these models. but the problem is it would cost a few hundred to get it sent here.

i am going to chase one up in the mornning so wish me luck.
