Airscrew -> RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread (10/30/2007 9:00:22 AM)

Yes, I'm interested in a tailwheel from Sierra. But first I need a kit from this bird and that seems not to be easy!
KMP and other Shops don't ship to Switzerland[:(] So I hope one of you can do this for me. I would pay with PayPal.

Curt, did Darrell give you a ballpark for the tailgear?

He didn't give me an exact quote, he just said the price would be about the same
as similar sized tailgear. So I would say around $150, (but that could be a high number)
He could definately tell us if we can get enough people that want them.

BigRetracts-RCU -> RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread (10/30/2007 8:08:09 PM)

KMP FW-190 Builders,

I have not worked out a price for the tail retract yet but it would be between $75.00 and $100.00
depending on the final quantity.

The thing I would like someone to work out is how we would mount the tail unit.

Without cutting the tail off the plane, how do we get a former for the retract mounted and a
rib in the vertical fin to mount the cylinder to.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks,

Darrell

Darrell,
Thanks for posting. Since I brought the idea up to you, I will cut open a scale size opening in mine tonight (I'm not scared[:D])
Then by looking inside I might have a better answer. I'll post a pic when I'm done. Depending on how wide the hole is you could probably
fit a former in the fuse but it might have to be a two piece and then epoxy together when in the fuse. As far as the rib in the vertical fin
how high from the bottom of the fuse do you need it to be. Depending on where it needs to be you might be able to cut a small hole in the back
of the fin and slide in a former. I might be way off here though. But either way I'm cutting into the bottom of my fuse because one way or
another I would like the tailgear in the proper place. The pull-pull cables system may be interesting as well.

Just my personal preference but I would rather pay a little more and have a higher quality more detailed gear set up.

Again thanks for your time Darrell.

Hi Guys

Question : for those that have already received their kits what did you pay and when did your KMP FW 190 kit arrive?

Thanks
Dean W.

Around $685 shipped, received it about a month ago, shipping took forever, took over a week by DHL.

dvs1 -> RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread (10/31/2007 2:39:55 AM)

Darrell,

Did a rough cutout tonight for a future tailgear. Pretty hollow in there. But after seeing what has been done
in the past by some people I still think it is definately possible.

Also for those mounting factory tail wire to bottom of fuse be careful, When I cut mine out I noticed that it was way off center
and there was a large glob of hot glue between bottom of fuse and plywood the gear bracket is supposed to mount too. The glue was
over 3/8 of an inch thick so the gear would have attached to glue instead of wood.

propwashed -> RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread (10/31/2007 6:00:51 AM)

How goes it.. The 190 is looking nice. As for the access for the tailwheel formers you need to install...If you don't hinge the rudder first you can carfully cutout the reaer vertical hinge former cut out your access retract hole (like you have done) and then do as we have to on the SisT kit
First shape and install your front lower support and then install the upper/cylinder support between the vertical fin sides. Would need the gear on hand to fit all the formers correctly..

Thanks for the heads up about the tail wheel mounting, dvs1. I won't bother with a retracting wheel but will try to make up somethng better looking.

Same here...
That's about what I paid, if I remember correctly. Maybe a little more. Got mine from Tomas. Took about a week for it to get here. Ordered the retracts from Darrell @ Sierra on a Friday and they were here on the next Monday.

MANFRED -> RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread (10/31/2007 3:18:34 PM)

Darrell, is it possible to produce a scale looking strut without the retract unit? This might be a little easier to install.

From front to rear it's 9 1/4" long on the top, 7 7/8" long on the bottom. From side to side, interior is 7" at the front, 8 5/8" rear top and 7 1/2" rear bottom.
Have no idea whether it'l take a flat twin.
