Is there such a thing as used q40 or similar planes? Or do they all meet the dirt before they get old. I have a Nelson engine that I got fairly cheap, would like to find a fairly reasonable airframe to put the thing into. Even older f1 or anything that would be similar. I have checked out Matney but dont have the time to build. Am I just going to have to bit it and shell out and wait for a new pole cat or similar?

Check out the 'bay.. there's a new QM40 plane for sale, never had a radio in it. I just added it to my watch list... Do a search for "miss candace" and you should find it...

Not sure, but it's probably not bad. From the makers website, one with the firewall installed is 625, and then it's about 30 bucks for the aluminum mount, too - so you'd be looking around 650 or so for one like it, I think. All composite molded QM40 airplanes aren't cheap, I guess.

ECO:

Q-40's are expensive unless you build your own from a kit, then still expensive compaired to the simple arfs in kit form. They are designed and proven before they go on sale to the public, sometimes years into the design, so the R & D is expensive. You occasionally see a unusual sale on these things from people who get started and something strange happens to make the project unfeasable. Lead time from some of the guys building are around 6 months, so a lot can hapen. I waited 7-8 months for one out of unusual circumstances, and ran into eyesight problems in the intrum. So, there is a $650.00 Ashley on the ceiling waiting for my eyes to be corrected if possible. Why would a person discount a new plane? There are occasional decent deals out there for anything, but you have to be there at the right time. The $650. numer is ball park, what mine with base pait coat, tailfeathers on, motor mount in. cost from one of the best builders around. If the e-bay plane is a good flyer, may be a good one fo you. With a good engine, you are looking at near or over 200 mph. Can be a short expensive flight if you are not used to these things, things happen vary quickly. Best of luck, we all started with something like this. ENJOY

Yes Fred Burgdorf flys at our field, Ive met him but dont really know him. I flown fast, lots of ducted fan stuff and I have a pred2 with a jet50. The q40 although look to be faster by quite a bit, it doesn't appear that I would have much trouble, at least I dont think I would. Something I dont know?
Thanks for all the responses

A used Miss Ashley sold on Ebay Thursday with servos and mount for I think $305, those deals are few and far between. That one had one of the landing gear torn off and repaired and the photos were pretty fuzzy so it may have been a deal, or may not. The Candice you spoke of is about as good as it gets for a Q40 brand new price wise. It's not cheap to own a Q40 but as with anything you get what you pay for! If your ready to make the step up go for it, and as many others on here stressed to me don't get cheap when you start putting parts in it! (Thanks guys) Good luck and enjoy the rush!

Well, the Candace didn't sell, but the same guy has a Jett QJ40 BSE that's up for grabs. Might be worth a look! Search for Jett in the toys & hobbies, RC section.

I'm not flying QM40 so it won't do me any good, but thought I'd mention it in case anyone was looking.
