Hi Bax. I'm restoring a Super Tigre .61 and I made the mistake of removing the crankshaft spacer without examining it first. One side has the inner edge cupped and the other side has a square edge. Which side faces forward? Here's a photo of the part, which is #12 in the exploded view.

The squared edge goes towards the front bearing. The chamfered side goes towards the rear of the engine, where the crankshaft goes from the small diameter of the propshaft to the large diameter of the intake passage.

Thanks, Bax. This is is what I suspected. So, it is similar to the way that the chamfered side of the conrod's bushing always goes against the crank. That was my reasoning.

Yes, the chamfer is to allow for a small fillet on the crank where it changes diameters.
