Do like I did. I placed the rubber matting down. It comes in 2x2 interlocking sections. I really need to get back in my shop soon. The sad part is that you will have finished two Cardens and I still have my Spacewalker in bones

Thanks Neil!

I had time to work on the engine install today. I used the left over 1"x1" hard point
mounts from the kit and milled them to 2.5 degree angle. I mounted the engine and
tack glued the ply blocks in place.

I have temporary aluminum spacers installed for the fitting. Once I have everything
checked out I plan on turning permanent aluminum spacers.

I will be using 5mm mounting bolts with locking nuts for the engine mount.

I have the cans swapped, left for right in the picture... Just an idea I had for a second.

Question....

I have never set up cans before and I want to know if this looks OK
(red arrow in the last picture) or do you think I need to add extensions
to the header so it pushes the cans deeper into the pipe tunnel?

This looks great to me... No spacer blocks on the header, and no pipe
extensions!

To me it fits like a glove and I'm not talking OJ here!

OK so I am going with that setup....

Here is what I cam up with for a rear mount. It is pretty tight up
front so I am thinking of supporting the front of the cans right behind
the coupler on the neck.

After some advice about the rear can mount I made new
donuts for the can mount. These have more surface area
so the plywood won't dig into the silicone mounts.

I also framed up and built the pipe floor and front bulkhead.
The pipe floor is in 2 sections. one is removable in case I need
access to the pipe mount.

This is the second night messing with the split cowl...

I glued in the 5 ply blocks for the blind nuts on one side of the cowl.

I also have scrap balsa taped around the fuse to help line up the cowl
for fitting.

I modified the lower attachment points of the cowl. It is hard to explain
but basically the lower half is screwed into blind nuts that are located inside
the fuse. Access to the lower bolts is from the bottom cutouts for the pipes.
I will be adding alignment pins each side of the lower cowl mounts.

In the last 2 pictures it looks like I will have to make a new upper cowl
support, part C1. The one supplied with the kit has a different radius and
is about 1/4 inch small on both sides.

Kelly,

I had the same issues with my top cowl ring. All I did was to cut the the corners flat and added a piece of balsa and cut the ring to the correct shape. I traced the front of the hatch and then cut the ring using the inside of the line to allow for the thicknes of the cowl.
