I have been working on this kit on and off for about 8 months . Weather here was perfect today got her finished up . Every thing looked good . So off to the field we go ... Did the normal preflight and all looked great !! Here is the rundown on the gear Jr 4721s on the ail hi tec 615 mg on the flaps and 1/4 hitecs on the rudder and elevator ,Fox 3.2 . Taxied out on the runway every thing still looked great so up we go . Not much trim needed .. But then the right wing decided to BREAK where the servo bay is !!!!!!!!! Well you know the rest . Post flight exam Just dont know what happened Going to call yellow in the morning and see if they have had any problems with this , Seems like I heard or read something somewhere about this . Can anyone help Thanks Tim

It is an older kit? Some of those had failures right at the inboard edge of the aileron. Not sure of the whole story, but know they had some failures in that are.

I am afraid it looks familiar...I would call Yellow, they are aware of this problem on earlier kits, and you can ask them what change they made. Unfortunately, it is too late for your jug....sorry for your loss.

Tim, You may have run into the dreaded Yellow Jug aileron flutter. Did you use the lead weighted fiberglass ailerons? These have been known to induce aileron flutter if not installed correctly. The trick on these is to extend the hinge line INTO the aileron about 1/2 inch behind the aileron leading edge. This is done with robart hinge points extended from the wing trailing edge with brass tubing. Were the gears stripped on your aileron servo? Sorry for your loss, I almost lost my yellow jug to the same problem. Both of my aileron servos stripped in flight but I was able to nurse it down with just elevator and rudder. Aileron flutter is a nasty thing and will rip a wing apart in no time.

Thatnks for the replys . This kit did not have the lead weighted ail. I thought that I did good by using good servos for the ail. But I guess not . are the newer kits any better? I just luv the jugs and would like to do another one . Just kinda scared after this . I know yellow makes a great product because I see a lot of them . I feel kinda snakebit right now I lost my 35% edge on the 12th flight do to battery failure doubled everything in it two batterys two recievers battery isolators double switchs . i hurt my pride so I backed off for a while and decided to finish the jug up and try again And ........... Well you know the outcome ....

oh well you win some and you lose some I guess take offs are optional but landings are manditory .. Maybe Yellow will give me a discount on another jug It was ready for bomber this year too.......

But the stuka , corsair and hellcat will be there

Tim, I'll be at bomber again this year. The rare bear has to take on a new set of challengers plus I should have my big Me109 ready for the show. I do have a full kit for a yellow razorback jug sitting in the garage. If you can wait until sept or maybee go to the austin warbird show next month, I can bring it to sell to you if you like. I also have a brand new G62 to sell with it. Sorry again for your loss. I still miss my yellow jug. It was my first giant scale warbird and I lost it to reciever failure on its 40th flight. Right after a new paint job too. Look me up at the show.

I have mine ready to paint and don't like to here things like this. My yellow p-47 is an older kit with out the counter balanced alirons. I threw mine away and built scale alirons with a scale hinge line. I did counter balance the alirons and only used three hinges. I have my wing reinforced with laminated carbon fiber spars, one infront of the retract rail and one aft. I also notice everyone over powers the jugs. Yellow calls for a g-38 for scale flight. Would the bigger engines promote to the aliron flutter because of the faster speeds? Why would you want to fly a p-47 in any other manner than scale? I noticed in most cases with aliron problems the planes were always over powered. Maybe I am wrong for thinking this I am not sure. I am powering mine with a u.s.41cc . Wes

I talked to Yellow today and I had the older kit also . He told me that in this particular kit the servo bay was the weak spot as were the ailerons . He said that an additional spar needs to be added to the wing as does some work in the wheel wells and aileron servo bay , I would call Charles and talk to him . Mine had a fox 3.2 in it and it flew ok , But I bought one from a friend of mine a while back with a G-62 in it and I really like the way it flew , I think that the G 62 is the way to go , you also dont have to add any nose weight .

P51flyer,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.
Out of curiosity. Being is that Yellow new about the defect and that there was a fix for your kit, but seemingly did not make it publicly known. Did they offer any type of compensation? IMHO, I think they should.

Funny you should ask that , I talked to Charles today and asked him the same question and he told me NO Not really happy about this , He told me that it was an old kit . I really like the jug and yellow is priced pretty good . I am a little scared to build another but there are so many out there they have to be good (I Guess) . However a little better cust. support would help too!!! I would at least offer my cust. a discount on a new kit Tim

P51flyer.....Sorry to hear about a "warbird" down...........You might want to build the Ziroli P-47 with the 'glass fuse...........built-up wing gives you the flexibility to make it as strong as you would choose.......Attempting to make a "Multiple" warbird landing a couple of years ago @ the Joe Nall........I cut the corner and flew my "Z" P-47 thru the "large" tree on final with of all people Nick Sr. as my spotter........I repaired it in several months.....unfortunately it sounds as though you had much more damage......Bill.......
