I am in the process of getting all the new required equipment together. I have my plane and I see that Greeve pipes are suggested. I also see that MTW 110 cannister can be used. I have a new set of the MTW's and the mounting holes seem to be too large. I see that MTW makes a cannister that is 80mm in dia. Is this what this was setup for ?
QQ The canister we design for is 80mm diametr called MTW TD110K soled by Desert Aircraft.

I am new to setting up pipes or cannisters. I want a good solid smooth throttle transition. What should I be looking for with the pipe setup ?
QQ It is a difficult call. The pipe will give you about 300 to 350 rpm over the canister. Weight is the same. Transition canister is smoother. My own personal preference and that is what I compete with mine is with the greeve. The difference on power is huge.

Also, I will be using Futaba new 9156 servos when the come out. Will these be enough for the El. they are rated at 340 ozs? I will be using 3 of Ail, 4 on rudder. I spoke with Wayne and it was like he was not sure on these questions. Maybe you can shed some light here.
QQ Yes, that servo will be enough for the elevator. 3 on aileron and 3 on rudder will do the job.

Reza,I'm interested in buying the 120",after reading instructions,I'm a little concerned about the phenolic control arms,if they work like the ones that glue into a composite ARF they are a **** to get in correctly and lined up for correct geometry.I'm also interested in the greevs pipe installation.Do you have have any photos available to look at of the installation? Thanks for your time,Vann

Hi Vann,

Please email Quique at qqaircraft@gmail.com with 120" concerns and questions. I wish I could help out but I can't as much. I don't really think you shoud worry about the control horns. The slots are already cut out!

Thank you,
Reza

Vann,

I just saw that website is updated. Please click on the manual http://www.qqaircraft.com/html/aircraft/yak120.html on this page. I hope this answers some of your questions.

Thank you,
Reza

Hi Joe,

You are very welcome. It was QQ who helped me with the answers. The man himself.

Vann,

It is hard to tell from the pics in the manual, but my 120" QQ Yak has the Greives pipe and cannister mounts already installed. You can use either. The cannister hole is for 80mm dai. cannisters tough. They have silicon isolators on the 4 corner of the mounts and looks to be able to just slip the pipes into place with no other mounting needed.

Here are a few pics. Hope this helps.
I am also looking into the Greives pipes. Guess, we have to call DA.

You can see cannister and pipe mounts are already installed to accept either a 80mm dia, cannister or the long Greives pipes.

Joe,They told me 228.00 Ea.for pipes,48.00 Ea. for Headers 25.00 for couplings and stuff.Did you check on engine thrust angle? I'll bet those 170's will kick butt!I don't think this plane will need it being under 42# I had a extra w/cans weighed 44# the 150 would hover less than half throttle,It hauled that plane! Thanks,Vann

Vann, That is not as bad as I was expecting, but still a chunk of $$$$$. I want to quite my planes down, but the money spent on the pipes could go for the 170. And decide from there. I will probably go until after Xmas to decide and just get the rest of the plane setup.

As far as the engine thrust, it is already setup with right thrust in the motor box. I put a squre against the side of the fuse and you can see the right offset. Plus the standoff are all ready made up and the same size and the firewall is marked out for a DA 150 hole pattern. Should be pretty easy no matter which way you go for pipes and a 150. Hopefully the 170 will have the same hole pattern.
