Vann,

My friend is building mine. I have not even seen the plane personally as it was shipped to him but I always use supplied hardware and that's what he's used.
I will ask him to see if mine is same as yours and I will let you know.

Thank you,
Reza

Vann,
No, I used the new "Knuckle" style headers that after you get them where you want, carfully take them off and you solder them with a type of silver solder I got from DA for the job. Very easy to do.

What did you get ? One that only have a 50mm drop ?
That is what I got from DA on the first try, but luckily I had a set of 70mm drop headers to keep things going.

But now, I just opened up my new battery order from Fromeco, and they are not what I ordered. I even rechecked my confirmation email from then, And I got the wrong ones. So, now I will have to call them on Mon. Bummer..........

No, I got 70mm drop headers, they're just not flexible .I'm going to try them and see what they look like.I hear they're having a hard time filling orders at fromeco, they are selling like hotcakes,I believe them to be the best batteries and regs available, and they are great guys, call kurt he'll make it right fast!

Vann,

Here is my header setup. They were adjustable before i solder them together. They have what looks like slip knuckles. Other then it being my first attempt at doing this kind of silver soldering, which as you can see is not the neatest, they seem to be very strong. I have a length of 9 3/4" and a 1/4" gap between header and pipe.

You might need to put more separation on the header/pipe. Most are using a minimum of 1/2". These pipe grow when they get hot. With this soft mount it may never be a problem, but with the factory greve mount (hard mount) we had to put 3/4" separation. The pipe would grow so much that is mushroomed the end when it pushed against the header. Of course we had some lock out issues with the radio also.

Thanks, I will have to keep that in mind. I am maybe hoping that with this type of slip in mounting, that it would not be a problems. I will keep an eye on this, or maybe the next time I have the cowling off, I will trim the headers,

With say that 1/2" separation between the pipe and header, how does the teflon coupler hold up ?

Quist,

Were your "lock out" issues caused by the metal-to-metal contact?

That is good to know. I think I will leave it for not and keep an eye out on it if I get a chance to fly it here soon. If the weather really sets in for the cold winter, I will get in there and put a bigger gap.

Do you guy use anything else to hold the teflon coupler or are the clamps enough with a smooth end on the headers ????

Yea i silver soldered some pipes similar to them for a friend of mine.On the 3w pipes I heated the couplings up w/torch before I slid them on and clamped(cleaned w/alcohol first) never had a leak!DA said just let them run at idle for 3min. then let them cool.Man we had a beautiful day flying today, you did'nt try that bird out yet?
