I also used the gorilla glue for the wings, but I used 30min epoxy for the tail feathers.
I used older robart incidence meters, they are the old analog style (you can see in the pics from earlier in the post)
They seamed to work good, I have three so I was able to have one on the bottom wing, one on the tail, verify that they are the same and a third on teh top wind, that way I was able to move the top wing and look and make sure everything else stayed the same.
I think it is important to get it right, it helps keep it steady on slow approaches.

Make sure the wings are not warped before you check the incedence.
My top wing had just a little bit of warp that was easily taken out with a heat gun while twisting the wing slightly.

Cool, I'll double check the wings for warpage. I should be able to glue the upper tonight and get it placed. Thanks Joe

Taxasskydiver, I have not purchased my motor yet so I'm not sure What standoffs to use. Give Tom a Call at Wild Hare, I'm sure He's got the answer. Well I got my wing on last night. Lottsa fun!!! With a little bit of sanding and adjusting I got the upper wing at -1%. Also I replaced the stock strut tabs with some good ones. When I put the upper wing on at first it was at the identical plane as the bottom. But now she should be good. All that is left is control linkages, motor and electrical. Should'nt be to long now!!. The snow is still annoying however. We got about 6 inches in the last couple days but It looks as if next week it will be in the forties. About Time!!!! I figured out that wit ha power commander my berg reciever will work great even the seven channel, because each channel has 3 servo connections that will elimnate any y harneses or reversing Y harneses. Talk to you all later Joe

Well it is looking good.
I don't have a DA on mine so I am not sure what size stand offs you will need.

Joe,

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

You can look at this thread for more info.

In short:

a. I had to find out how deep the firewall to engine cowl opening was. I found it was 7". The DA50 with 3" mount legs is 6 7/8" tall so by adding 1/4" spacers I can get 1/8" clearance between the nose cone back plate and cowl. I used 1/8" flat aluminum doubled up as spacers. They're not pretty but they work.
Basically if you are using a DA 50 you need a total of 3.25" between the engine and firewall.

b. To get the center marks for the engine mount bolts on the firewall I used the method on edge540t.com. Basically you place the engine right where it needs to be on the firewall, using the cowl to center the spinner back plate. Afterward carefully remove the cowl trace your mounting bolts, drill and you are golden. Very easy to do this way.

Hey Guys, I was wondering what is all your opinions on the dl-50 engine as to the da 50. My plane is as far as I can go without a motor so its time to bite the big one and get on coming. I know there are forums about it but Id like your opinions without starting a big debate about the 2. Later Joe

Well I have seen both engines run very well. My father has a DA50 on a 80" extra and it has a lot of power, I have also seen the DA on the Ultimate and it also has unlimited power for the plane.
As for the DL50, the is some one in our club that has one on a 25% Yak, and it seamed to run very well as well, even though it was still in the break in stage. I have heard a lot of good things about both, so the big advantage of the DL to the DA is the price. I know that the DA mufflers will fit the DL, I looked in to them before I bought mine.

I have the TOC 3mm 53cc from Tom, I got mine with the plane. I think it is a great engine I am just at the end of my break in period, I just changed over the gas mixture and I changed out the 22x8 prop for a 22A Vess Prop. I had the 22B and it few great, but I am looking for a bit more pulling power in a climb.

I think you need to go with what ever you are comfortable with, and realize that all engine have good and bad points, plus with gas engine it is a lot of how you treat them, if you break it in right and be patient it will run forever with little to no problem and lots of power. On the other hand I have seen the "Best" engine fail due to abuse.

On another note.
Our Spring fun fly is just days away, April 19 08 at the RDRC field in NC.
you can get direction if you are interested at RD-RC.org.
So far it looks like it will be a great day to fly, I am excited to take my Ultimate and maybe my pusher Bobcat, if I can get the retract issue fixed.

Hope to see you there.

Here's a note for all my TOC-53 users.

I hope to have a hop-up kit available for the TOC-53 about the end of April. The kit involves replacing the 2 petal flat reed valve with a 4 petal V-block reed. It also does away with the stripped threads in the plastic carb mount and uses an aluminum plate instead.

I have built a few prototypes and tested them. Throttle response is excellent, starting is even better, there is none of the problem with changing attitudes making the mixture change, and power is greatly improved.

In my testing I am getting a solid 7200 rpm with a Vess 22-A, with flashes to 7250. With the 22B I get solid 7100. With a Bunny/TBM 22-8 I get solid 6800 and have seen 6900. The ones I say are "solid" are reliable repeatable numbers, the others probably involve variables in air density and tach fluctuations. These numbers were done on a test stand here in Texas on a moderatlely broken in engine that was repaired after a crash, so it's anything but special.

One flip warm starts are normal, the engine handles as well as any I've seen. This IMHO is the ideal engine, powerful, reliable, inexpensive.

The hop-up kit will cost $69. It uses the standard carb that comes with the engine. I will install it on any new engine that you purchase from me for no charge, or you can easily install it yourself. It requires only simple tools, includes all necessary parts. The most complicated part will involve drill/tap the fuel pump diaphragm cover plate for 8-32.

Tom

Is this going to fix the spitting of fuel and having to rotate the carb and block?

Do you have a picture of the new block etc?

Zort,

Can you explain the "primitive camping allowed" for the fly-in?
I have a number of tents and was wondering what size to bring?
Looking forward to it. (Hope the Penns sweep Ottowa so I don't have to mis a game )
