OK. That makes sense. I was wondering if it had some benefit w.r.t. to the rudder to elevator correction during knife edge.

Dumb question!!!! Do the elevator halves have hard wood points in them. I have found and marked all of the hard points on the alierons but I cant seem to find them on the elevator and rudder.
I have taken way to long to get started on this plane. I hope to have it ready to fly by next weekend.
Hope to have it completly hinged tonight.
Thanks for any help

Rush7, Yes they have hard ply circles under the covering. You can see them if you work the monocote or heat it up a little bit to tighten were they are. Joe

Thanks for the help JOECROW. I just finished hinging the alierons. Next step is to install all of the servos and control horns. If all goes well I should madien this bird next weekend.

Is anyone out there running the stock exhaust or are you running a pitts muffler.

Thanks

I used the stock DA50 muffler, it does mean you have to cut the cowl a bit, but I manage to make it look very good.
BTW, had a great afternoon of flying the bird. You will like flying her.
OH, make sure you get the CG within recommended range. I know a lot of 3D guys like to have a plane tail heavy, but this one I think is an exception.

What prop did you go with on your DA 50 / Wild Hare combo? Would a 22/10 menz be acceptable?

I have a Vess 23B on my DA50.
The 22x10 Menz will fly it, but I would suggest a 23x8 Menz. I know it seems like it should be almost the same, but the extra inch gives seems to make a difference in 3D and you don't need the speed

Another question. I am having a problem with the alierons. I used the 6-32 bolts included with the kit and the semi clear horns. When the servos travel to the end point they are twisting the control horn on the 6-32 bolt. When I return to the neutral position the alierons are not returing to zero due to the control horn being pulled one way. I am having to push the alieron the opposite way to get it to straighten back out. I am not overtraveling the alieron so the force of the servo overtraveling is not causing the issue.
I can push my alierons another 1/4" before it binds at the hinge.

Any help would be great.....

Rush, Did you make sure your servos are in line with control horn. It is on an angle and they are mounted so the pushrods are straight with the control horn. Seeing the wing is on an angle a common mistake ive read is they align it straight with the fuse and not the servo.

Rush:

Something is binding, or the control horns are moving around in the hard points. You may need to pull back the covering and see if the hole for the screw has wallowed out.

If so, I would drill a larger hole (1/2" and install a good quality oak hardwood dowel with epoxy, then drill down the center of the dowel and reinstall the 6-32 stud in the dowel.

Loose control horns can kill your plane when they allow flutter, you need to get that fixed.

Mystery solved. I spoke with this fellow on the phone which is certainly the best way to resolve a problem.

It seems that he was using ball links with the little horn brackets, a definite no-no. This caused the horn brackets to rotate on the stud which is not what we want.

He's going back to the clevises and I'm sending new horn brackets.

People do the darnedest things.

This is a hobby where you learn all the time.
A picture or in this case a phone call is always the better way to solve a problem.
Don't be afraid to ask away though

Like Tom said, one phone call to Wild Hare R/C and the problem is solved. I tried to use ball links on the supplied contrl horns and since they were pushing and pulling on the control horns at there end points it was causing the control horn to rotate on the 6/32 stud.

I was trying to make the plane better and instead wound up shoting both of my big toes off. I guess that is what manual are for.....

Tom thanks again for all of your help and I would just like to apoligize to all of you guys for having to deal with idots like me in this hobby. I love this hobby but seems like I can never quite get things right the first time.

I know one thing is for sure. When I finally get this thing going I am going to be one happy camper. I have seemed to push the build on this thing back further and further but I am to the point now that I am almost done baring any other stupid mistakes on my part.

One more thing guys. I called Tom up and told him what I had done and he said "I guess you are going to need some new control horns." I of course swallowed that big lump of stupidity in my throat and said yes sir. He took down my information and didn't ask for a dime. THAT IS WHAT I CALL GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I can honestly say that there is a few more Wild Hare planes in my future.

I build in the winter if I can help it at all. I start rushing things when the weather gets nice.
Like I said before, ask away or call Tom. He is always very helpful.
Come winter I will surely add another
