Hello:

I have no personal experience with this oil. I have however sent a request to our manufacturing facility to ask their opinion. On the "assume" side, if it is turbine oil, then it should work fine as will any quality synthetic 2cycle oil. We test all new turbines as well as serviced turbines with BP2380. This is a great product and serves us well.

Best regards,

Hi Eric,

The turbine oil EXXON 2380, provokes formations of coal in the injectors?
The model FALCON JF100 can use SINTETIC 2 CYCLE OIL ? ( 3 OR 5% ? ).
What's the indicated amount of oil for engines ( JF 100 and JF 120 ) ?

thank's

Jose

Mike:

Actually and to be very honest, I dropped the ball on this one. It is a National holiday most of this week in Mexico however, I will call and discuss. Look for my post later this week with a solid answer.

OK Guys. . .

He is the scoop on Mobil DTE Light.

1. We cannot get this oil in Mexico so we do not have any experience with it.

However:

1. This oil has been used with great success and NO issues by four (that I know of) Jet Central Turbine owners.
2. I personally spent 5 days with Gerry Kerr and Jim Hiller at Top Gun. This oil was used exclusively and with no issues after more than 5 gallons having been run through our jf 100 Falcon
3. Seems to burn cleaner (No I did not tear down their turbine) and for some reason, even smells different while the turbine is running.

Negative:

1. I have trouble seeing the fuel quantity in the tanks. 63 year old eyes perhaps !!

Positive:

It will save you money and can be purchased in 5 gallon containers (search this for your self in your area) and I am told is less toxic to the skin. Again, this is what I have been told, not a chemist conclusion. Please research on your own if this is of interest to you.

Percentage of oil remains the same. Two point 5 percent (2.5%) in all our turbines. Yes, for those of you who also fly other brands and wish to mix only one batch of fuel, 5 % is fine in all of our turbines except the Super Bee. While it runs OK on 5%, it performs far better with the recommended 2.5% oil mixture.

Best regards,

Here ya go guys . . . I just ordered 5 gallons from J & L.

http://www.jlindustrial.com/CGI/JISRCH?ns=1&oldNtt=&oldNtk=&oldURLVar=&scrNtt=mobil+dte+light&Ntk=Keyword+Search&x=21&y=11

Total cost is $63.98 which includes shipping. Sure is a heckofalot cheaper than turbine oil . . . divides out to $3.20/quart. They have multiple shipping points, and will ship from the one closest to you.

WHOOOOOAAAAA!!! Just got my invoice and find that they added $5.54 Sales Tax and $19.25 for Ground shipping. This brings the total to $84.38. Still a good deal though at $4.22/quart.

Well, Tuesday night before I went to bed, I remembered that I needed some oil. I went to the Oil Store site to order some Aeroshell 500. Wow! It's up to 10.49/qt. With the price of kero going through the roof something's got to give.
Then I thought it's about time I tried the DTE Light that I've put off buying. So, I ordered it instead. It showed up this evening and I'm glad I made the switch. I have enough for 100 gallons of fuel at 5% and 200 gallons at 2.5%! Total price was $84.88.

DTE Light update....

I've burned close to 10 gallons of fuel with DTE Light mixed 16oz. per 5 gallons and all has worked fine. I know that the DTE didn't have anything to do with this, but the Rhino pushes some serious thrust.

I'm at the end of the normal batch and will start the DTE batch soon. I don't suppose there are any mixing problems wth the two oils. I'll put a sample of the two batches in a jar to make sure. For this one I have a quart to five gallons because of my JetCat P-60.

Mark,

Prior to getting the Rhino, I had run apx. 20 gallons of DTE, at the quart to 5 gallon ratio, through my JetCat P-120. The DTE seems to blend well with the kero. After running 30 gallons through 2 different turbines, I'm confident that the oil is mixing well otherwise I would have experienced bearing problems by now.

I think that you will have success with your switch to DTE and that your turbines will not have any problems. Your wallet and health will love the switch.
