I went today to check on some coroplast at a sign shop. they took all of my info and what I wanted then asked me what I wanted on the panels. I said I don't want anything on them, just blank. they told me that was was considered a raw material and a wholesale item and they wouldnt sell it to me. To make a retail product they had to put letters on it. I told them that was the stupidest thing I ever heard and walked out. I guess Im gona have to order it from harbor.

Have you checked to see if there are any plastic supply warehouses near you? Buying 4x8 sheets from these places can be relatively cheap and you usually have a good selection.

Draftman1,

Sorry to hear about the problem at the sign place. Don't give up on the other sign shops, too. Maybe the next guy will have his head in the appropriate place...

Also, Google "Regal Plastics" and see if there is an outlet near you.

Blue skies,

DL

If there is one sign shop in town I'll bet there are more.
You need to convince them Your building Spads with pics or a plane if at all possible,
If they think Your going to use the coro for signs they won't sell to You at whole sale prices period.
It also depends on the people running the place , if there ****s, You will have to find an other place.
Good luck.
Jeff

Hey draftman, that is one dumb sign shop. Were you talking to the owner, or some dumb clerk? It maybe helpful to let them know about the $$ lost when you pick up your material from a different business. I had some sign people give me their supplier, and I picked up two 4'x8' sheets, and one white 2 mil smaller sheet with no questions asked.

Keep looking. I am sure you will get what you need without further hassles.

I go to Multi Craft Plastics in Portland Oregon and they will sell me a truck load if I want it. It is not badly priced either. Good Luck, Dave

Try googling for CAVY CAGES,(Guinea Pig)
She will sell you coro. with shipping included, also search spadworld
Cavy Cages also has a local coro finder section at their website .
Why local because the shipping will kill you if you get big sheets.
I got 16 48X24 2mm 24 flutes for wings , and 12 16X48 4mm 48 flutes for fuse cut wrapped and shipped to my door for $123.99 about $10.00 per plane. from Regal Plastic in Phoenix.

All the local sign places that even wanted to sell me anything at all wanted to sell me an EXPENSIVE sign.

I thoght of a small number or something in the corner after I left on a bad note, it was a clerk but she asked another sales person and what appierd to be an owner. 2 mm was out of the question and colors were special order. there are other spadders in the area and I need to ask them where they got it. it is a big town that I checked at and I will find some other than white. I got some white from another shop in a different town but getting colors is very expensive.

To be fair, a lot of sign shops are in business to sell, surprise, surprise, signs. I don't think you should have been rude to them for selecting the kind of business they want to be in. Now, it's going to be difficult to go back and ask them if you can have a big box of vinyl cutoffs which they would have put in the trash, but you could have used to decorate about 100 spads for free!

i called a sign shop here one time - they quoted me 400 bucks for a 4x8 sheet - blank or otherwise. I laughed and told them i'd be calling their competition - (whoever was next in the yellow pages). They agreed to sell me a 4x8 sheet for 11 bucks- i did explain that i was using it to build r/c airplanes with, and not to make signs. At any rate, the first place i called is no longer in business. The one i bought from is going strong. Call em, explain what your using it for - if you talk to the dumb blond that answers the phone, ask for her boss - the one who's runs the business. He's no dummy. 9 times out of 10 he'll be glad to sell to you - especially if you build one for him to hang from his ceiling.

My big problem with sign shops always came when I went back for a second and then a third sheet. They always wanted to raise the price. I understand they want to make money on the deal, but don't get crazy with it. If you can get to Regal or someplace like it, that is were the sign guys are getting it anyway. There is almost always a local big supplier near by. The sign shop I used to use slipped up one day when I wanted a color sheet and told me they would be going by Regal later that week so I'd have to wait until then. That's when I started looking for Regal. We are lucky enough to have both regal and Allied plastics within 45 min. Cris is right, if they think your a competing sign maker, they'll give you trouble. If they know your just a strange customer they usually change there attitude.
