Did anyone have any problems with the block that are glued on to the aileron hatches? I had to drill the hole right on the corner for my servos(e-flite 75). And of course one broke off. After a little creative engineering I have it fixed. That seems to be the kind of luck I have though. I love those skis, but I am glad we don't have enough snow here to use them. People here can't drive on a good day much less on snow. I am putting some over sized tires on mine also. I have some foam ones off of a seagull trainer. They were on my MUS, and it flew just fine.

Flew it this morning in 8 degree F windless snow and it works great! It takes about 4 ft of run and it's up and flying much better with the wing straightened out. I had some of the right aileron trim in just in case and found it now banking to the right! I took all the trim out and had hands off straight level flight. It will now cruise around at a much slower speed and is a breeze to handle. The warped wing was the problem. I flew around for a bit doing loops and rolls and then decided to try landing. Set up in the pattern and brought power back on base and cut it on final. Flared just above the snow and let it settle on. The skis touched and then added full up to keep the nose high and it slid nicely right up to my feet. Yea!!!!! I took off again flew around some more...wow, what a nice looking plane in the air. Another nice landing and it was off to work! I had intended to take pictures but in my excitement to get out the door I forgot it. I'll be flying with some friends on Saturday and I'm sure they will help me get some more pictures.

Hi. Flew again at noontime...wow! what nice little airplane. Easy flying with fun aerobatics. Temperature was 30 degree F and no wind but the snow was a little more fluffier. My first take off attempt I let off the up elevator too soon and it settled into the powder but didn't get stuck. I started the take off again but held up elevator untill it was off the snow and then let it level off and get airspeed (soft field technique).
I had a solid ten munites of flying at various speed and power settings and stopped because I had to get back to work! Landings are very pretty but do need to avoid ruts and bumps. The field I was in has a snow mobile trail and they had been having fun in the new snow. There was a large triangle patch of fresh snow that I used for landing.

Great Fun...too bad everyone else has to wait for Christmas!!!

Hi Folks -

So, I also have been drooling over this beautiful plane and ready to give Santa a call. While I'm not new to RC, I am new to electric. Any reason why this wouldn't be an ideal first electric plane to try? I'd appreciate your advice. I'm converting over but want to start "right".

My thinking so far for this plane is to go with the 450, 25amp ESC, with a 10x7 or 10x4.7sf, 2100 lipo, and some hitec 55's. I'm thinking this plane is a good choice since I can reuse some of these components in other future e-flite planes...the cub is lookin' mighty nice too.

Thanks,
mjb

I took mine to the local club Thursday,, it was a big hit !! I didn't get to fly it, everyone was passing the transmitter around !! It is such an easy, docile flying airplane that I did not worry about it. Had to recharge twice!

I would recommend it. It's a well built kit and a decent price. The components can be transfered to a lot of other aircraft in the 450 power range. The 480 motor system, at least from E-Flite is more power than this would ever need and slightly heavier with the 40 amp speed control but would be able to power slightly larger airframes or aerobatic ones like the SeaGull RC Extra 300 which is designed around the 480 or E-Flite's Extra 260. I believe the E-flite Cub and now T-6 Texan require the 25 size motor and 60 amp controller along with much larger batteries. For my dollar and car, the 450/480 series is the most economical and I can fly my Extra 300, P-38, Yak-54 and now the Taylorcraft with the same 3-cell 2100 mAh packs. If you have tailwheel experience and perhaps high wing experience it should be a painless transition. Just know that these planes are built very light with a lot of laser cut parts and open spaces so a crash means a LOT of little bits and pieces.
I know because my Yak shed a wing in flight and went in hard. The nose was pulverized up to and including the firewall the the rest was fine and will be rebuilt with a new fuselage and cowl.

Welcome aboard!!

Jay

I flew mine today for the first time. It is pretty for sure. The E-flite 480 is extremely overpower for this airplane, but is alot of fun. Take off with less than 1/2 power for scale takeoff and fly around at less than 1/2 power. At full power with a 2200 pack and an 11/6 apc, it is basically unlimited vertical and would hover if it had the throws.

Thanks Jbird.

Do you think I could put floats on this puppy? (maybe even the ones for the cub?)

I think floats would be great. I have some 25 inch blue foam floats that might work. I think the E-Flite ones for the Cub would be too big actually. There are lots of float design information threads out there.

Good luck!

Well I took mine out to maiden today. When it took off I realized I should have waited. It is kind of windy today, but I got it back down in one peice. The wind was about 10 - 15 MPH steady cross wind. When I came in I throttled all the way back and put it nose first in the wind. She floated right on down, and touched down in the mains first. It was just about stopped when the wind blew it over on its back. All in all it was a very nice and uneventful flight. I can't wait to get it out ona calmer day.

We had great winter weather here...about 25 degrees and calm until noontime. Went flying with some friends with an assortment of electrics. The snow was pretty soft and became sticky as the morning went along. I got stuck a couple times and had to walk out onto the field to retrieve it...darn! I hope to get some video and in flight pictures from a friend who was flying and will post them.

One take off had too much power and it stalled and nosed into the snow. No damage but it was really packed in!

Here are some in flight shots. This is the same KVMA field in the first flight report. It snowed the next day!

Nice aerial shots, Jaybird, it sure looks great in the air. I have one on backorder. I ordered the Pawnee at the same time and was notified that it was shipped. EFlite does a great job.
