Thanks for the recommendation. While the APC prop is a composite electric prop (11X8.5E), the E-Flite is lighter.

Concern: The E-Flite prop has an indentation in the hub for a hex nut. However, the 450 motor shaft is much wider than that opening, and it is threaded. The APC accepts the threaded shaft and backplate perfectly without the need to remove any material to make it fit the shaft. Will the E-Flite prop be safe to use after reaming so much material from the hub to get it on the shaft?

Man an 11X8? I ran A 11X 3.5 APC (thay come with adapters for any sise shaft) at first and have sense down graded to a 10X6 master airscew (but what size shaft do you have 4mm ?) and it flys great pulling only around 6-7 amps avg. with 14-18amps on take off and I fly at 1/2 thottle

Maybe I am using the wrong terms to describe my situation. The shaft running through the motor itself is 5/32" (not sure of the exact metric equivalent). The adapter (collet?) fits over the shaft, goes through a backplate and into a small cone that is shaped like a spinner. The adapter is 1/4" wide and is threaded on the end entering the cone. Wish I knew more about electrics to give you better terminology to which you are more accustomed. Being relatively new to electrics and my first electric prop plane, I cannot explain it much better. Not much better with the digital camera yet, but hopefully the attached give you some idea of what I referenced:

I had the same issue. I've been flying on an APC 10x7 and an E-flite 450 motor with plenty of power and no issues. The 11x7.5 would be a bit much for the 25 amp ESC. I definitely wouldn't try it without a a way of measuring you max current draw. WOT on the 10x7 pulls about 18 amps if I remember correctly, but I rarely need that much throttle.

does anyone know if there is a website with the Taylorcraft in stock. I ordered mine from horizon a month ago and am still waiting, every month the arrival date for it to come back in stock gets pushed back another month further.

The inserts are not the issue. APC props fit fine. The recommended E-flite 10x8 prop is the one that doesn't fit.

What is the dimensions of the battery box.

The pack is 3 x 2.5 x 1 inch

Great question! I also have A123 batteries and would love to be able to use them in a Taylorcraft. That might be the push that makes me go ahead and buy one.

Waiting for this in the United Kingdom. Has anyone put the Park 480 motor in? The higher rated of the two 480's?

I have a new 480 that is spare. so i will put that in.

They're hitting the shelves in Oregon....picked one up 2 days ago at Trumps Hobbies in Corvallis....they still have one there. (Not affiliated or am endorsing Trumps only that they have one if you are feeling lucky).

Flew off the water today with the Taylorcraft on foam floats. Others there took pictures and will send them soon, sorry. The set up worked very well with the blue foam floats and 450 power system with an 11x4 slow fly prop. There are pictures of it on snow in ealier posts. I'll include some links as soon as I can.
