I bought the Evolution 1.00NX engine because the Evolution 46NX is the best glow engine I have ever owned, but after reading some of the posts here on RC Universe I was wondering if I had made a mistake. After flight testing, all I can say is this engine is GREAT I am running this engine on a UAV that gets lots of flight time, lots of long full power climbs, long pIeriods of idle, and lots of cruise at midrange and the engine has been flawless. The Evolution 100NX starts easily and never quits until I shut it off, power is good and instantanious when I need it, the Evolution 1.00 NX is every bit as good and reliable as the 46 NX

There are a couple things I did right off, based on some of the reports that I have read. I have always hated remote, back mounted needle valves, these were invented to please lawyers, not modelers Fortunately, the Evolution 100 NX has a provision to easily convert the main needle to the much better working carb mounted position. Just unscrew the dummy plug from the left side of the carb, unscrew the entire needle jet assembly from the remote arm, and screw it to the side of the carb, its that simple, unscrew just two things and you are done !!! Evolution even included two shorter backplate screws if you want to take the remote needle mount off the backplate, although this step is optional.

The other thing is to make sure the carb is seated down against the carb gasket so there are no air leaks, there have been some reports of this gasket missing from the Factory so I checked mine. The gasket is very thin and hard to see, and it sits down INSIDE where the carb goes into the engine, not around the base of the carb as in most engines, so its VERY easy to not see it and think its not there. Anyways my gasket was there as it should be and I just Pushed the carb down against the gasket while I tightened it so that there would be no air leaks.

Lastly, I unscrewed the idiot stops on both the main and needle jets. The stop on the idle adjustment adds a lot of mass to it, and can even make it prone to moving on its own. I know how to adjust and engine, and dont need stops to keep me from running it to lean... I set up the engine just once, and forgot it, the adjustment stays where you put them and the engine runs great, flight after flight.

The Evolution .46NX has a reputation for being a great running, long lasting, high quality engine. I have found the Evolution 1.00NX to be every bit as good and trouble free as the .46 as long as you use a little care in setting it up properly. If you would like to see some of the flying that I am doing with this engine, you can see the videos at:

The Evolution 1.00NX is the worst engine I have ever own! It cost Me two planes. I now have it in a third one. I have finally got this engine to run close to right, I think. First, use a type "F" plug. Second allow the engine to run just a little richer than other engines. When this engine costs Me the next plane it will be on fleebay.

After reading some other posts I wondered if the Evolution 1.00 was the best choice for my model. I was happily surprised.

I made the maiden flight on the Ultimate Bipe today. It flies very realistic. Wow!!

The model is an ARF manufactured by Seagull Models. It is sold as a 0.90 to 1.20 size. It weighed in at 9.75 pounds and is powered with an Evolution 1.00 2 cycle engine.

The engine runs great but it needed about 3 tanks of fuel to break it in. I used a Master Airscrew 13 x 8 initially and am now flying with a 14 x 8. The power and sound is realistic, near 4-cycle quality. I was running 15% Omega fuel and it was running about 9,400 rpms (3600 feet above sea level).

The bottom line is the engine does require some break in and some tuning to get it to run in top form. Once you set the mixture it runs quite well.

I am happy with my Evolution 1.00 purchase.
