I broke a rear diff output within a month of buying mine, is this normal, I read that it happened to the guys for rc car action as well....then i ran it fwd for awhile and started breaking axles......

Yes, it's normal to break them out of the box. They are just about the weakest part of the drivetrain. HPI released new black ones that are much stronger, they break far less often.

As for axles, either replace them with T-maxx shafts or get CVDs.

I have had diff problems and shaft problems. I bought the generis cvd's, that solved the shaft problem. And I am still looking for a good diff transfer.

Here's my New E-savage. I got it here on RCU on a trade. I'm VERY impressed with the raw power, even with the stock battery packs! It has fog lamps and red headlights on it too. The only other 'mod' I did was put the heat sinks from my Traxxas Villain boat on the motors. They seem to work well and just snapped right on! I'm a big fan of this truck so far.

Those heat sinks are a nice addition to the stock motors. I popped a set of those on last week myself. At only $5 each and they are a nice inexpensive touch.

This weekend my project was to swap out the motor connectors with some 4mm Castle CC Bullets. I already have Deans on the battery connectors so this gives me a nice low resistance path for the electrons to get all the way from the batteries to the motors.

Of course when I took it out yesterday to see if I could discern any improvement a M3X12mm screw fell out of the steering assembly after like 1 minute…fortunately the screw is the only item that was lost. Guess I need to keep a closer eye on that assembly as it isn't particularly obvious when fasteners starts coming loose in there. Maybe I'll have time to buy a package of screws today.

Even with the stock motors this truck has enough power to make it a fun drive where I use it most. I don't see myself needing to dump a lot of money going brushless anytime soon, so just doing a little bit of optimizing here and there is all a feel like I really need to do for now. Mine is second hand as well, so it is a real nice feeling to have such a capable machine for less. I almost don't want to put too much money into this just to keep that nice warm sense of value and bang for the buck! Plus I can save money for other projects.

Whoa I had no idea that HPI Baja Bug body was so big!

I finally ran my truck last night after replacing the stock motor connectors with higher quality male and female CC Bullets. Truck definitely picked up a little more speed and punch. Now I wish I would have done something like measure motor temps before and after the mod to get some objective quantitative data.

I would suggest for anyone that is going to upgrade their connection from the motor to the esc to solder the wires from the esc directly to the motor, even if you have to solder an extension piece on. That is the way most people that own a soldering gun do it. Most on road racers will solder the leads to the battery on the battery everytime.

Hey guys,

I was looking at the E-savage, or the E-maxx. The E-savage I like because it's cheaper, I love the nitro version, and the aluminum chassis. I don't like the tires, wheels, and I don't know much more about it. The E-maxx I like for it's cosmetics, BL ready, waterproof, and it's a legend. I am coming from a Rustler vxl/MM esc. I usually like speeds of about 35-40 mph. Not to fast, but a fun speed. I am really liking my Rustler because it never breaks, and it's a cheap car to run. I can always count on it running. Upgrades are cheap, too. I keep putting more and more money into my Rustler. By now, it's pretty nice. I just feel that it's time to step up to something bigger, and badder. I am looking for 30 mph stock, and maybe 40 mph down the road. It will have to be cheap, not so much the original truck, but it has to pretty durable. I don't want to have to run to the LHS every day for a broken part. Especially at the price of parts with bigger trucks. Thats one of the reasons I have stayed 2wd for so long.

Please, without just saying, "The E-savage owns" or "E-savage rocks mann!!!" say why...

I am looking at this truck, and want to know this -

Stock speed
What it will need to be a strong basher
Is it BL ready
How do the stock electronics hold up
Will it be stronger then a RPM Rustler vxl in stock form
