And beautiful, gorgeous beaches with little things of beauty in bikini's runnin round on them. Ah, come back to earth Jezmo, Earth to Jezmo.

Here's another "plug tutorial", seems there is some differing philosphies or down right misinfo sprinkled about the web. I just found this
jem from the early days, when I got my first whiff of glow fuel. (plastic yellow TriPacer U-control, powered by the "mighty OK cub" , under the Christmas Tree, 1959) "Cold plug" is just as it seems, sure, there is less methanol with High Nitro, but the use of a cold plug in this case retards the ignition point. (it is probably heavier wire, but for shock resistance in a severe racing app. not heavier wire to boost the ignition probability for lack of methanol content)

hello everybody.
I´m from Brazil, and since OS lauched its new ethanol engine, we are very interested in converting our engines. Here we have ethanol in every gas station since 1978. the first ethanol moved vehicle produced in large scale was a fiat 147, then VW beetle... in 80´s, 85% of brazilian engines was burning ethanol...it means that this fuel here is very cheap. We have a sort of domestic ethanol with 98% of alcohol volume and 2% of water. our commercial ethanol fuel have 7% of water and no gas. Great! Wy we are still using methanol? I really don´t know.... two friends in our community in orkut got the os AX-BE engine and the BE3 glow plug, but they are doing the breakin in the engines now...not much information comes from those guys...I got many hints here, thanks, in this week we shall start our experiments.....sorry by my english.....wish us luck....bye

rasprot: How good of gas mileage do your cars & trucks get with the cheap gas there? It seems like gas milage would suffer badly??? Best Regards Capt,n

we don´t have any truck running with ethanol, just cars...an inexpensive(most w/ 1.0 engine) car, can do 8Km/litre or 18.8 miles/gallon in city. Some cars with flex fuel engines, like citroen c4 pallas, can run 5Km/litre or less. With gas only, it can run a bit more. Generally ethanol moved vehicles has a greater consumption of fuel. Good flights there.

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I find this very interesting. Can any direct me to a forum that can detail the conversion from GLOW to GAS. I must admit I am a newbie so the dummies version would be helpful. Or if anyone has a step by step list for conversion.

Thanks to all,

Douglas

im going to dig this one back up for a question.

was it ever decided on the proper mix for the smaller glow engines?

my own personal case would be an os fp20, tower hobbies 40, and an old os sp40 (i think)

I guess nobody has determined the optimum E85 fuel mix. It sounds like it's time to experiment. I'll be doing so soon.

Hello. I think that 18% of castor oil and 10% of nitro would be good, but there is a little problem: the compression ratio and the steaming of E85 and air. the compression have to be raised from 9:1 to 13:1 and steaming from 1:1 to 1:6 (both require some serious mods in the cylinder volume and carburetor).

resuming: I quit doing this conversion, due to the poor resulting performance after the conversion and the amount of work doing this...

sorry by the english I´m from Brazil.

good flying out there.

Folks, I didn't do anything modwise to my SuperTigre 40 and it runs very good on 10% Nitro, 18% Oil, 10% methanol, and 62% E85. It's running an A3 OS plug and starts by hand. I don't know if this mix will work in all engines but the ST 40 likes it.

(I'm sure it doesn't matter but the oil is 80/20 blend.)

st is a great engine. I did some tests in an os 46fx. the goal was to eliminate all the methanol and the nitro, just castor oil and E85. didn´t work very well wihtout those theorical modifications. I think that a GAS engine can run in E85, due to the ignition system, but this is another history.
