I don't have this Zero , but I do have the 120 size 71" wing span and yes its used as kinda of shim to get the engine mounted forward enough to match the planed spec sometimes you will need it sometimes you won't depending on the engine you are using , turned out I it needed and used it

Hey guys, what size Wheel would be scale? The 2.75" wheels that come stocked with the kit are pathetic. 3.25" fit in the wheel pan but only leave about 1/4" of space all around. I'm likeing the sound and look of bigger wheels.

Hey MSC, do you have any more pics of those wheel pans you moded that you could post or PM me?

Thanks.

So whats the census on keeping the wings seperate or expoxied together? I would love to keep them seperate if I can get support from those who are flying the Zero and believe its safe.

Any Ideas on where/ what kind of extra Connectors should be installed to give extra strengths in keepeing the halves together durring flight.

Also, What size / brand  Prop is everyone likeing on this Bird?

Thanks, Chris

Hello boys,

I have also CMP Zero and made big changes on it...

Model is GREAT, it flight very nice, a lot of better with retracts which can draw in... I use Robart 635 and 4" whells...

Motor on my Zero is Zenoah 45. It is great motor, little heavy but, Zero need a lot of weight in front. Propeller is Xoar 20x10...

Most important thing is all what you want to install put it as forward as possible!!!

Until now I have almost 170 flights with my model, and it is flying very nice, it is very strong and finaly it look very nice in the air...
Coming down with flaps is nothing...

My Zero have smoke system, reject tank system...
I make wing in glass and paint it... Weathering is done also...

Servos in my model are Futaba and Graupner. For engine standard Futaba servo, for kill swich little Tower Pro SG 90 servo, for tail Graupner 5077 servos wich on 6 V give 5,5 kilograms of torque... On ailerons and flaps are also Graupners 5077...

Total weight is almost 12 kilograms, what is far a way from weight which is in CMP manual... But it fly like dream...

Many photos about this Zero, and how I make it, you can find on my web page:

www.nsmodelers.rs

Text is on Serb language but photos tell 1000 words...

Hi to PJ and Dino... will we be together on Top Gun 2010 again?

All the best from Novi Sad, Serbia

Hi Mirce,

i am building the same Zero in Germany. Can you tell me about the EWD.

O sorry i don't know what is EWD in English, in German: Einstellwinkeldifferenz (the degrees between elevator and Wing).

Greetings, Andreas

My Zero is almost 12 kg...

I will begin mine after Xmas ;-))
Powered with a Cyclon 160 (3500W peak) and a radial 12s2p a123 pack; radial to keep CG in place.
I plan to use SpringAir 403 with oleo struts for retract.
Any recommandation?

I just ordered my CMP Zero from Nitroplanes. I have waited for a year to get this plane after I was taken buy RCO****site.com. I am really looking forward to getting started with this build. I have a Brillelli 46GT I plan to use for power and I hope to get a Zinger 18x8 3 bladed prop with a nice Zinger 4" spinner painted a nice rust color.

Clay,

Your plane looks really good. I just got mine in today and Hope to get started on it ASAP. I see you have yours balanced. What CG point are you using and did you have to add any weight with the Fuji 50 up front? I plan on using a Brillelli 46GT with a 21x8 or 20x10 prop.

what was your retract set up ? what struts did you use ? I've wanted to attempt this one but I always like getting all my goodies before actually buying the airframe

I opted for the Hanger 9 150 P-47 retracts for mine. They each use a servo that attachs directly to the gear itself. I have read they hold up very well to a grass field and are a lot cheaper than they Century jet or Sierra gear. Early in this post they were used in this plane and I e-mailed the user and he said they worked out very well on this Zero I'll post some pic's as I build

Hi Jim
I think I used 6" CG I will check. I bought this plane with some parts (not assembled)motor, retracts, battery, from a friend. I moved the motor as far forward as I could by having a shorter prop hub made. That moved the motor about a 1". I put a battery tray above the motor with a very large battery. besides the shorter prop hub and the large battery I had to ad about 6 oz. to balance. The retracts I got with the plane, I think they are Robart spring down, with machined partial strut and bent to fit the wells, also robart struts came with the parts. The Robostrut are for a 14lb plane but I am going to put in bigger springs/spacers and give them a try, with the solid machined partial the robostruts should be fine.
I will take some pictures and post.

Man !

My bird has been setting on the table for about 4 months now, waiting !!.. Hopefully I can get the engine and retracts soon and get her ready for the new season.

Keep posting Pics everyone.... Anyone have some of what they did with the Rear Rudder Servos/ linkages. I've hear a couple ideas... but would like to see some installs.

Take a look at this site. It has some pic's of how they did the tail wheel hock up. There are two people who postede this setup so look thru the whole post.

http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=28437

It also show the setup of the Hanger 9 retracts landing gear that I will be using.

Yeah, Mine has been sitting around too (over a year and a half!). I'm trying to ready a smaller .60 sized World Models Zero that I would like to use in our Tuesday afternoon warbird formation flying. We have been doing this for 15 years as a group! I'm also using this plane to experiment with fiberglassing then adding rivets, panel lines, etc. as I plan to do them my larger CMP Zero. I'll attach a few pix here of the .60 sized World Models Zero in primer. It's almost ready. I've had to deal with engine issues but it's close to another test flight. The weather here in Michigan is not that great for test flights at the moment....20 degrees for the daytime high......

Thanks. Some of it has changed since those pix. Control horn lugs on the tail group have been removed. I made my own from G10 and saved a bunch of tail weight plus they are far less obrtusive visually. Power is an older second generation RCV 120sp and a variable pitch ground adjustable hub. The engine is still in the break in stage and not producing enough power to fly her well. At the end of the flying season I had played around with the pitch/rpm/thrust to weight/fuel thing and found a little more power. The engine is still breaking in though. I want to get it flying dependably before going farther with it. I think I will begin the CMP larger 80" Zero soon but still need retracts and servos. I'm just going to build it fairly straight forward for now and then add detail. Attached are some pix of the set up for the WM .60 size Zero and the engine for the CMP. I really can't wait to get it going, you guys have inspired my want to build it now!

Dang Chickenhawk, if you make your CMP look half as good as you did on the plastic model it will be awesome!

thankx for the complements Aluminum Overcast ....here is the thread for my Zero = http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_90..._1/key_/tm.htm

I would love to have a Radial engine for my Zero... I did find that Idia is making Sedel Radials that will fit the CMP Zero. for alot less than the Radial you have.. they are priced at around 1400 compared to the 1999 the want for yours.. here is the thread on it http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_87..._1/key_/tm.htm

but regaurdless. Since you already have a engine, your gonna love blowing by doing a high speed low pass with the sound she'll make...

Yeah, I'm geeked. I bought the ASP for $1,100.00 on ebay from a guy in Canada who ships directly from the Chinese factory. At one point they were only being sold for $800.00 if you can believe that.....NEW and with a 1 year warranty! At the present time there is no distributor for ASP (Magnum is the same company but does not import the 400R to the U.S.) here in the U.S.. I have broken it in and it is great after troubleshooting a carb low speed rubber gasket that was not seating well. I had a long conversation with the new distributor of RCV, Weston UK, Alan Greenfield. He gave me incredible customer service on my old RCV. He also did some consulting on the rework of the Siedles built in India and said the machining done there on those engines is second to none and the latest technology. This is coming from someone who has been designing, building and tweaking engines for 25 years or so! Alan told me Mr Sieldel's philosophy is "radials for everyone" and the new pricing proves this. Did you ever see the prices of those engines when built in Germany? Anyway, I am off topic. I chose the ASP for cost, power, sound and nose weight with all that plus nothing sticking out of the cowl.

Of all the guys who have flown or are flying this CMP 80" Zero, what is the general consensus of the best CG?

I had one befor the one i'm bashing now.. i CGes it at instructions location but when balancing i made the nose down.... just a little bit. I never had to change it. even tho the plane was lost to mechanical failure the plane was a jewle to fly..

quote "Did you ever see the prices of those engines when built in Germany?"

If i remember the german web site were asking about 1000 dollars more than if you bought it in Inia... am I correct.. anyways i (for a very brief time) had the cash to get one, and had a invoice from them in PDF for 400.00 off the web price.. so I tried to call one of the order phone lines. well darn it.. no one spoke english...... go figure....[sm=75_75.gif]

the 7-70 thats out from them would be a match made in heaven.. since the Zero had a 14 cylinder you wouldnt even need a fake engine.. and fly with scale prop too. hehehe and there built for the no nitro fuel so low cost to.. Its only a dream ... for now

I read this post 3 times from start to finish and it looks like the CG is 5 3/4" to 6" from the leading edge at the fuselage. I am going to be using a Brillelli 46GT in mine and I will more than likely need to add about 1 1/2lbs of lead to the engine box to get her to Balance. It seems no matter what you do the plane will weigh in around 20lbs when balanced[:@] Still I know Fishdeath had a Thor 45 in his with 2 lbs of added weight up frony and it flys great Here is a link to his video.
