Guys:

Guess my electrical theory needs some more education. Last night I tested a system, 3,000mah 20 C battery, CC 54amp controller to a AXI 2808/20 good for 30 amps. On the watt meeter, it pulled 24 amps WFO, no heat problem detected. Thought, great, can use my CC 35 AMP controller and use the 54 elswhere. Hooked up the 35, got the correct beeps and promptly the controller went POOF. I am a little lost as to why. The motors max demand is 24 amps, controller good for 35. The battery is good for 60 amps, but the demand on it is far below capacity, 24 amps. Any idea why this thing went up in smoke. The 54 is back in place and working fine pulling 24 amps. Oh, yea, I am not the brightest bulb on the tree of electric flight. ENJOY

I'm not really sure, but you could check how many cells each speed controller is good for, maybe the voltage was too high for the speed controller and that's what made it go poof. Other than that, you could have got the polarity backwards or something (especially on the lead side), but there aren't too many other things that I can think of.

Sounds like as far as the amperage is concerned you're A-ok

Could be a looong voltage spike. If the prop is big enough tp prolong the runup, the peak power consumed by the motor can be lots more than you expect.
