thanks to all for adding the weight of your planes. the nitro ultra bipe comes weighing 10 pounds. so if you guys are pulling 12-15 pound planes with this motor and your happy about it. i should be fine. as long as it has enough power to hover it will be enough for me.

Guys, been following the thread with interest.Swore never to buy another chinese engine but hit the pay button on a sv26 in a moment of weakness. I understand that tech support is zilch and the motor has issues to say the least but I also noticed that almost everyone is happy once the bugs are ironed out.
My questions are :- do I need to do anything special before i fire it up the first time? I understand the mounting ears are the most vulnerable- would adding an aluminium plate be good or mounting direct to a ply box without the standoffs work? Is there life span for the reeds? Is 40:1 mix OK for the run in?
Thanks very much

Plug the little hole in the throttle butterfly, make sure the spark occures at 30 deg BTDC, and adding a plate is a good Idea in my opinion. Mine is sanwiched between the reeds assy and the case, and I ground off the ears. I run 100:1 full synthetic myself. I ran almost 1 tank of 32:1 petroleum based mix, and was disgusted with the oil residue on the plane, and switched to 100:1 full synthetic immediately, and so far, no mess or other issues.

You move the hall sensor in the direction of rotation. You should make a degree wheel, and set it so the spark occures at 30 deg BTDC. You can do it with the plug out by turnin the engine. (Static Timing)

Thanks for the tips freeonthree.I just received the 26 and looks OK.A bit of paint came off the sides but i guess thats cosmetic.Overall, for the money I suppose I shouldn't quibble. The ignition looks like a rcexl clone. Engine alone weighs 985gm.The black steel muffler is kinda heavy but looks tough.

26 what ? There sold under 22 different names. Check the timing first, mine was off 10 degree's... If there's a little hole in the throttle butterfly, plug it, or it wont idle down to a useable speed. My SV26 muffler was trash, not worth tossing in the trash. Buy a slimline or other quality unit for it.

ran my SV26 today for the first time on a test bench...started right up and ran ok...at half stick and up...the engine sputters a little..could it be too rich or the timing off ?? but I think its going to be a strong runner

Make sure it's fireing at 30 degrees BTDC, and yes, if it's 4 cycling a little at low stick, thats normal. If it wont idle down enough, plug the little hole in the throttle butterfly with epoxy on both sides (one drop) each side, and use a pin to make sure they connect in the middle.

I noticed last night that HobbyCity no longer offers the SV engines, except for the 100 twin. Hmmm....... I had planned to buy the 26.

BTW, they also no longer list the DL50.

They recently promised us that the parts for the SV26's would be posted, yet another lie to add to the list. They never even told us where we could get parts. We don't even know who made them. I won't buy anything from them anymore. They have lousy customer service. The worst I have ever seen. They don't even answer their phones when their open.

Agree with you on the customer service. They don't pick up the phone-period.Sending damaged stuff back doesn't make economical sense.I see they no longer stock the SV engines. I got mine just in the nick of time- whether lucky or not the jury is out.Spares will be a problem. I guess its going to be fly and throw away for this engine. The SPE pitts muffler fits but you need to grind off the rear fins a bit. Its much lighter and better made.
Just wondering whether this engine will be more stronger running than my SPE 26 which turns a 17x8n apc at 7400rpm.
Hobby City is run by an Aussie guy I think.

My rear bearing was very rough from new, and now my crank has some up/dn play at the rear. Time to start thinkin about pullin and measuring them. Boca will have the bearings.
I want a Zenoah G26ie eventually, but I have about $350.00 in my SV26, so im going to run it until it's wore out. I was more concerned about the reeds. I have SV50 reeds in it now.

Yeah, I just did, thanks ! I see theirs has a choke ! $225.00 is fine, if their in the USA and shipping is reasonable, for me anyway. My friend needs two for a Cessna. I see they also state the ign voltage as 4.8 to 6.7, so my 2000ma 6 volt NiHM batt is just fine. If shipping is $8.00 to $12.00 now, we'll be very happy. Thanks for the website ! Dennis

ok i ran my 2nd engine today. runs awesome. dialed the high and low needle valves and i'm very happy. but my first engine is not so good. i have run maybe a 1/2 a gallon thru it. i've changed carbs, mufflers, gas mix., everything mentioned in this web site. the problem from the start and still is when i try to give it full gas it dies. everytime. any suggetstions? i've looked on the web for a new stock carb, or even a rebuild kit. could not find any.
