hello.
i have sv 50.
what is the best prop for this engine?
what is your max RPM that you get?
i run with 23X8 wood prop i get 5400 rpm max.
the HI needle was open only 0.5-1 to get this RPM if i open more than 1 the rpm drop to 4300 max.

1 more if i get under 2100 rpm i get strong vibration.

Hello Orenneri - In my opinion, the propeller you are using is way too big for this engine. I would try either a 20x10 or 21x8 or maybe a 22x8 once the engine is fully broken in. You should try to keep the RPM's around the 7000 range, or a little higher. If you are only getting 5400 RPM's, then this is a clear indication that you are loading the engine too much, or you are running it too lean. Is the engine running hot? Reports from other people also suggest this engine is very vibration prone. About the only thing you can do is ensure your propeller is properly balanced, and that the engine is secured really well into the airplane. If things don't improve, you might want to consider a different brand of engine, or possibly returning it for warranty repairs (good luck here ).

I have one of those sv26 and was wondering what to do for the choke and all that setup with a cowl. Any good picture to show the setup.

Thanks

Eric

I took a choke off an old weedeater, cut it down, and used a metric lock washer (wavey) around the bushing of the moveable choke flap, to keep the moveable part of the choke snug yet movable, and made a wire linkage with real small fuel line over it and a nylon clevis attaching it to the choke flap. I used wheel collars to limit the linkage travel, and put little pieces for fuel line to keep the collars from touching the support bracket which is located just inside the cowl and screwed to the firewall. Sorry, no picture... Just make sure that you don't have any metal to metal contact.

sorry to hear your troubles freeonthree. but we have been running this engine(3 different planes) for 3 months. no problems. i ordered a 2nd one, and it came with a new smaller, better built, painted black, muffler. i ordered a slime line muffler for my other 26cc. but the new muffler is smaller than it. not as well built, but will hold up to abuse. the carb was slightly different also. it's the same carb( no choke) but had easier to get to adjustments. i haven't started it yet. but looks better.

Well, my SV26 is fine now that it has the plate on it. That will last forever... Yeah, the 26's run great after ya plug the hole in the throttle plate, set the timing correctly, and add a choke. I love mine, but it is my first gas plane engine. Gregs FTL 45 has been a real jewell also, but it hasn't needed any mods like the 26. It was perfect right out of the box.

My SV, GRpro, LSPro, Jen 26cc Runs like a swiss watch ! if i start it on a Electric Starter first run i can hand start the rest of the day 1- 2 flicks so you dont really need the choke, No mods done to mine except a champion plug to replace FENG CHENG plug they come with I did have to move the timing but there is a mark on the prop drive, just get TDC and move the pickup to the mark and its timed !

I also know you can get more NEDDIES out of them by going to a bigger carby 13mm to be precise WT 610 WT 433 WT 660. This came from Larry these carbs also come with chokes so thats More power and a built in choke ! I havent tried it yet mine still satisfies me for now if i get bored with it ill find an old carby in a weed wacker \ chainsaw repair shop and bolt on some instant horsepower

Im keeping my eyes open for a different carb Sean. I like the built in choke alot.
My cut down weedeater choke if fine, but because of the german wavey lockwasher I used to make tension on the pivot of the moveable flap, it's a bit stiff to open and close. The thing is, it works so good, I havn't bothered to look very hard for another carb. I do see one in the future though...

Mine runs great also, but the cast rear case was defective according to HC. The plate it has now will never break though. I love the way it runs, and with the modified muffler, it fits nicely inside the cowl of my Super Stearman. I have maybe 5 gallons thru it so far, and it hasn't missed a lick yet.

I bought a motor SV50-SINGLE in January

I installed it on an aircraft tug, installation well made this is not my first engine.
Last week I was on his first start for the engine starts rodage.the motor stars very well , working properly with a good slowed but vibrates strong enough!
According to several startup and operating approximately 15 minutes, big scare ,the engine starts to move then rotates the propeller being hit on the ground.

1st observation: 3 fixations on the crankcase are broken ,fortunately the last fixation retained at the last moment the engine.

2nd observation: it appears that the engine fixations, which are quite small home have been weakened significantly by a faulty metal with large air bubbles in its structure

Conclusion: A broken propeller and engine out of service, but above all very lucky that nobody is there in front of the aircraft during the breakout of the fixations.
I think it is very important to ask the manufacturer of well-controlled quality metal during manufacture engines SV 50

For 2 months UH the seller recognise the probléme on motor SV-50 but takes in no way in term of guarantee what is frankly distressing and not shopping! I go therefore to me orientated to DL 50 which in air to have better return but I do not think order it at UH without service apres sale

And yet another unhappy Hobby City customer, and even further proof that alot of the SV50 singles are junk. I flat told HC that we would absorb the loss and just stop buying from them, before we would spend 40 or 50 bucks to ship a junk eng back to them, and then be told it was our fault. I don't trust them after the runaround they have given us.

Good evening to all:
As some of you know a while ago I purchased an XYZ 50cc gasser from Hobby City.
It is mounted on a 27% Cap232 and today I fired it up for the first time.
This engine started immediately. I ran it for only a little while, but it ran fine.
With the JXF 21x8 prop, it was producing a ton of power. I did not test the static thrust, but my friend that was holding the plane for me did let out a "holy sh%t!". I was idling around 2200 and max rpm was about 6500. That was a good sign. After the engine gets run in, I plan to try a 22x8.
So far I give this engine 2 thumbs up. I will test it more on Monday and have video to share as well.
I plan to run 3 or 4 tanks through the engine before I fly it.
Rob-

I guess the only bad engine's out there are the SV50's with the button on the crank pin.
I havn't heard any real bad things about any of the other engines, just minor annoyances.
