Gentlemen,

I have a Mc Ultra Duo Plus II charger that will fast charge my Nimh Batteries at the feild.

I'm looking for at least a 3 output charger that will peak charge my 2700 mah NiMh packs at a 300 mah rate and then automatically switch to trickle. It has to be able to charge both 4 and 5 cell packs at the same time. Is there anything that matches these specs? Once again I'm NOT looking for fast charging capabilities. Thanks in advance!

Scott

I am unaware of a 3 or more port peak detection, adjustable rate charger. When you use nimh, even with a peak detection circutry, you should still charge at a higher rate, not a lower rate. For example, 2700 should be charged at 2.5 to 3 amps. A 300 mah charge rate with a peak detection, the battery may really never peak and be over charged.

If you want a non peak adjustable charger, I use the Hobbico multi port charger. It has 4 ports and rates up to 500 mah. For the 2700 mah, you would charge it on the 250 mah setting. Tower sells that charger for like $40.00 or so. I use it to prime batteries on a c/10 charge for 2 days prior to cycling.

I really wish someone did have a "all in one" charger". I use 3 chargers, Litco Alpha 4, Supr Turbo, and the Hobbico multi port.

Evan,

So, is what you're saying that I should always charge 2700 mah NiMh packs at 2.5 - 3 amps??? I have the Mc Ultra to do that. I have read the thread that says you must prime the NiMh before you will get a full capacity. My logic was to do that at the c/10 rate (270 mah) thats why I asked for a charger that charges at 300 mah. I wanted to use the Mc Ultra to only fast charge at the field, and use a c/10 (270 mah), auto trickle to charge them at home and just leave them plugged in (on trickle) till I'm ready to go to the feild.

I guess I can just use my Mc Ultra to do all of this. It does have an adjustable charge rate peak charger and it will go into trickle mode when it's done. Trouble is it runs off 12 volts. Guess I'll just get a power supply from Radio Shack to power it when I'm at home.

What are your thoughts?

Scott

You really do need to 'prime' new NiMHs
w/ a slow charge.

And, if you always charge at those high
rates, you shouldn't be suprised if you dont
get full rated power out of the pack. Packs
are rated at something like C/5 so in your
case, that would be about 540mA.

If you have a peak charger, just get the Hobbico Multi-port, that is what I use from Tower Hobbies. It has a 250mah output as one of the selections. That is what I use to prime new packs.
