Hey guys, just received my dl 50 today Can I rotate the carb 180? This way i wont have to mess with miving my throtle servo set up. Bob told me to get the 8mm bolts with the 0.8mm thread pitch. I am using the standoffs that come with the engine. Also read somewere in this thread to remove a spring off the carb, is this the spring on the opposite side were the throttle servo hooks up? It almost appears that you could hook up the throtle servo on either side of the carb? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can rotate the carb, rotate the whole assem, including the reedblock.

You want Metric 5mm 0.8mm thread pitch , dont use 10-32 size, they fit, but the thread is not as tight and you will likely have problems with the bolts coming loose.

You dont have to remove the spring, it is only a light load and shouldnt worry any half decent servo. Some leave it on so that if a throttle linkage breaks, it will return throttle to idle/cut engine. Just unhook the spring off the throttle arm, dont remove or cut it in any way.

Cheers!

lil-redrex,
Thankyou for the info. I will get the 5mm.8thread pitch and rotate the whole assembly, and will only unhook the spring!! thanks again.

Dont' remove the throttle spring. If needed, clip it, but do not fully remove it otherwise your butterfly valve will eventually wear out, and you will be needing a new carb. With the spring removed the valve vibrates against the carb walls and wears out.

Can I use a short (3 inch) servo extension to go between the ignition and the Hall sensor without adverse effect on the engine? I would like to mount the ignition in the fuselege just behind the firewall. Plug wire is long enough but the sensor wire is a couple inches short.

Thanx

Just curious, upon first inspection of the standoffs, I initially thought that they were threaded all the way through, but upon closer inspection I noticed that they are only threaded on the two ends. What kind of connection are you guys using on the fire wall end. Is it ok to go ahead and use same connection as up front?

Finally got to do my maiden flight today with my DL mounted in a GP Wagstaff 300. I had run almost a gallon of fuel through it 2 months ago on the ground and tuned the engine. Afterwards I had run it dry and set it aside until I had time to finish the plane and felt confident enough to fly it. I could not get it to prime at first so I pulled the cowl off and put a small squirt of fuel into the carb. Then it picked up prime and took off. Put the cowl back on and it ran like a champ all day. One of the other guys with a DL remarked that mine runs smoother than his with next to no burble in the mid range and wanted to know how I tuned it. It's my first gasser and I found it too hard to try and tune by shutting it off to turn the needles so I did it with the engine running and the cowl off just like I do with nitro powered. I guess it did the trick as it purrs like a kitten. Can't wait to see what it is like once it is broken in 'cause it pulls my 17lb model around now like there's no tomorrow. Here is a couple of pics of our planes with the DL's

Super08,
How did you attach to the firewall. I have the same plane and installing the DL50 as we speak, cant wait to fly her. How does she land?

I used 3" standoffs and 5mm hardware with extra large washers behind the firewall. It lands like a kittycat at a slightly elevated idle. I'm guessing about 2000 rpm. I was surprised at how easy it was to land. The standoffs were made my Roger Forgues.(Forgues Research) He posts here on the forum.

lol the forum bot censored my post as it thought the first part of the other way to say kittycat was a naughty, I had to change the wording.

When I first started running this engine I was only getting 6400 to 6500 with a Bisson pitts and a Xoar 22x8. I tached the engine today and I see it is up to 6900 now. Getting better all the time. Started on the first flip this morning too.

Super08, what airplane do you have for your DL50? I used to have a GP Yak 54 but I sold it to a guy here in Moose Jaw. Now I'm looking for a new plane and a new DL50. Unfortunately here in Canada there is not as many good choice. I was looking at the WildHare Edge V2 but the shipping would kill me.
