Hi ,

Question?

I feel that my engine is getting too hot in my Yak so I removed the plug, and found the electroid to be dry,
That tells me that Im running to lean, Right

Engine is still in the breaking in period running with Lawnboy 32/1

It really depends on what type of flying you are doing as to which end (high / low) you need to adjust. If you fly mostly full throttle then it would be your high end needle you will adjust. If you fly mostly 1/4 to 7/8 throttle then the low end is the needle that needs to be adjusted.

Plug color is as follows:

White / Gray is lean.

Tan / Light Brown is perfect

Dark Brown / Black is rich

The way i tune mine is to get the engine warm and then tune the high end untill the rpm drops then back it off untill you reach top rpm and crack it back untill you loose another 100 rpm. Then go to the low end and tune it untill the engine stumbles when going from low to high at quick pace. Then back it off untill you lose the stumble. Then re check the high end again. It doesn't take much of a turn either the needles are very sensitive. I run mine with 50 to 1 Belray MC-1

Jim

Question for all you DLers. Are any of you running 50 to1 on amsoil and have you had any sticking or broken rings while running any ratio of Amsoil?

Which Amsoil? Saber or Dominator? Saber is designed for 80:1 to 100:1, and Dominator is for 50:1.

The one that says two cycle for air cooled engines in white letters, not the one that says multi purpose. The one on the right in the second picture.

the ring on my DL can rotate about 2 mm either way. I found the pin is only about 1mm raised from the groove bottom and has sign of wear at the top. Obviously that is a short pin and the material used is not very hard.

The pin on my DA has a length that is almost the depth of the groove and the ring has no chance to rotate.

I've ordered a new ring from Frank Bowman because of low compression felt. The engine has about 5 gallons fuel through it.

What kind of servo and brand are you guys using for the throttle on your engines? The DS821 that came with my Spektrum radio died today while in a flat spin. The engine was at high idle at the time and the plane was down wind of the runway, so I was fortunate not to lose my Wildhare Edge. I put a Futaba S3004 servo on it but with the way it is set up, the idle position isn't very repeatable, particularly if you bring the engine down to idle quickly. There is about a 500rpm difference, ie 1300rpm vs 1800rpm. BTW, the DS821 did the same thing.
