Giday,,,anyone useing a tuned pipe on there DL,,,,im after a good lenght ,,,too start with
thanks

All my (3) DL's are on tuned pipes. Two on KS pipes @720mm from header to baffle and the other on ES composite tuned pipe. GO for the KS, much more durable and not such a 'peaky' response.

Cheers

W

forgot to mention...ES pipe is on a 12" header.

Guys,

I have a DL-50 for my first gasser, a 30% Extra 330L. Still in the assembly stage. THis is a long thread and I tried looking awhile and also tried the Search feature, but did not find an answer to my question...what size tubing (inside diameter) do you use on this engine? Funny how the instructions don't even recommend a size. I know it should be Tygon, but should it be 3/32", 1/8", or 5/32" inside diameter? I see Dubro offers those three sizes of Tygon. Thank you. Jon

Jon,

I'm using the DuBro Tygon, but I can't say for certain which size it is. I use it from a 50' (or 30'???) spool. I have some at work. I'll look and see what the label says and let you know tomorrow (unless somebody else answers you first).

Part of the problem is the way DuBro labels their tubing. 3' rolls are labeled X Large, 3/32", and 1/8". But the bulk rolls they sell are labeled differently; 50' Medium, 30' Large, and 25' 5/32". So you have six different names for, I assume, three different sizes (unless the 3' lengths are different diameters than the bulk rolls - who knows?).

Now that I think of it, I just use the Large that came on a 30' roll, but I'll confirm that tomorrow for you. Hopefully somebody else can answer for sure what you need to use.

Tim

You don't want the 5/32". Too big. Standard 1/8" brass tubing comes with most tanks and the 5/32" wouldn't fit properly. I use the 1/8" on both the DL 50 and the 100; no issues.

Howdy wavy777 I had a look at the KS Pipe site. They list a pipe for 45cc and 60cc, which one are you using?

Hey guys, i was wondering if i could place the ignition battery for my DL50 a few inches behind the rudder servo, it balances the yak perfect. Would there be any interferance with the reciever signal on the 2.4 system?

Guys,

when I advance the throttle after extended down lines (when the throttle was at idle) the engine hesitates and sounds like it's going to quit before it "spools up" again. It always sounds like it's going to quit, but never has - just kinda unnerving.

My needles are set so at full-throttle it runs perfectly and at half-throttle or a little below it burbbles/four-strokes (if that has anything to do with it which I don't think it does).

Any suggestions?

Tim, nearly always a "throttle up" hesitation is too lean a low needle. It is easy to miss the sweet spot, since the low end affects the high, you can be tweaking away and get the high "perfect", but the low is lean.
My "test" is to leave a fully-warmed up engine at it's sitting-still idle....if it gradually speeds up, the low end is lean, if it slows, it's rich. Very much like glow motors.

I try for a solid idle without variation, even if left at idle for 30 seconds or more, then advance (dump) throttle to full immediately. If your low end isn't right, you'll see it RIGHT there.

Thanks Bob,

I'll try that.

After I started my engine today I was making some adjustments in the Tx while my engine was sitting idling for at least two minutes. I didn't notice if the RPM was increasing or not, but it seemed to be running fine, but I'll try your test tomorrow. Interestingly, the idle always seems to increase from where it was when I first start the engine to a higher rpm after the engine has warmed (after a flight). I always have to bring down the throttle trim several clicks to bring down the idle rpm when it's time to come in for a landingthus, indicating it may be a little lean (as you suggested).

Some of that is normal, but too much creates what you're seeing.
Let us know what you find.

My experience has been that although the overall adjustments aren't critical or touchy, the "sweet spot" of overlap of low to high which gives the best idle and cleanest transition is pretty narrow. Probably less than 1/8 of a turn, total, between the two needles. Think "thin screwdriver blade tip thickness" adjustment increments, the closer you get.

Oh.
Don't forget that if you change your oil ratio, the adjustments you just got "perfect" will require re-tuning because of viscosity difference of flows inside the carb chambers.

Hello been reading up on some of this thread really thinking about one of these DL-50 's for my great planes S2c pitts been running a Super tigre 3250 with not much results works really well when its running !!And that is far and few between its been sitting in shop all summer with three flights on it just tired of fighting the engine. So would this engine do me justice the price seems right for my budget. with the 3250 my weight is 15pds I had a christen eagle with a Fuji 50 its weight was 20 pds it flew really heavy in the air and wasnt very comfortable to fly [ like tryin to fly a brick with wings ]!!!! Really dont want to go back to that kinda weight if possible.
