I have just been out working on the Elan and I too had problems with the tube and the anti-rotation pins. One of the wooden blocks that hold the "hidden nut" that the anti-rotation pins screw into also came loose inside the fuse and will have to be re-glued back in. I think I will Hysol all them since the one came loose.

I have Jet 1A's coming for mine and I really don't want to grind the retracts down to fit the rails and I also really don't want to dig into the Elan fuse. I am hoping that the Jet 1A's will drop right in on the rails since they are being made special to fit the Elan.

I understand where your coming from on the grinding issue....I don't like to do it either. It was either this way, or wait and shell out the bucks for the Jet IA's. As it turned out, the 630's ended up fitting pretty nice. Haven't exactly decided what I'm going to do for struts just yet.

Status: offline 		I was worried that if you cut back the Robarts to fit the rails there would not be much of a bite due to the narrow factory rails. Alan did say there is more rail to the sides of the exposed rails so there will be enough bite if a person had to carve back into the fuse further. I just hate to carve up an expensive jet fuse.

This isn't a $500.00 kit. When kits get to this price I would like not to have to do a lot modifying (cutting up the plane) to make stuff work.

Status: offline 		Hi guys - I have a question on one of the two laser cut plywood plates that were supplied with the Elan. The larger one goes inside the fuselage and holds various parts that need to go in there, but I don't know what the smaller one is for or where it goes. Can somebody shed some light on this for me?

Status: offline 		What servos are you guys intending to use for the elevator. I read somewhere on this forum JR 8411s were recommended, I know the elevator is the most important control but at 11Kg torque each this seems like overkill to me!
Incidently I am also having some problems with fitting the wing to the anti rotation rods (very tight). I am also not sure where the small ply plate fits.

Status: offline 		Well folks I started assembly today. Yes my wing tube was tight too! I wrapprd some coarse self sticky sandpaper around a 5/8" (16mm) dowel and "reamed" out the wing socket tubes. Took all of 10 minutes. I then attacked the fuse tube and this took less than 2 minutes. Add another 4 minutes for the booms and I was satisfied with the fits. The 5/16" alum rods were next, a quick pass thru the booms and the fuse sockets with a letter "O" drill and all was well with the world. Total time from start to finishing up with the cleanup was just under an hour. MOST of the problem is paint in the tubes.

Back to assembly! Servo mounting to the covers and the covers to the components. This baby won't take long at all! 4-5 hours and I'll be ready for retract, radio and turbine install!

36" extension for rudder srevo is fine, 30" would be better.

48" extension for the elevator servo in the boom.

6" extensions for the elevator servos in the stab.

6" extensions for the aileron servos in the wing. Looks like I'll have to cut a small hole in the shear web to pass the wire thru so they will exit the wing at the forward most hole in the root as the hole in the fuse wing root is not there! OOPS! I'll add a doubler locally to maintain strength.

Gonna watch the baseball game now...

Status: offline 		I made 3 plug's for the kevlar tank and sent them to Gary at Jet-tec one is about 140+ oz one is 125 oz and one is about 110 oz. How big of fuel capacity are you guys going to need for the elan???? what turbines are you going to be using?? Lets hear from you so we can make it the most papular size.
