Hi all

No one has posted for a while, so I thought I would, I now have about 20 flights on mine and have been moving the C of G back to stop it dropping its nose in turns and to get inverted without too much down elevator? At present I am about 30mm behind the recommended position anyone gone further than this?

I don't have mine available to measure right now but I'd say my CG is a good inch back from what the manual states.  I kept moving the CG until I got inverted flight with very little elevator input...just right for me.

Now at 81 flights since last Saturday.

Does anyone have long term experience with Orbit clunks, I have one in the main tank of the Elan and do not get any bubbles from it into the UAT and when I empty using the feed line all of the fuel comes out not even a slick left, so the conclusion is that the clunk is very efficient, I have heard of people using an Orbit clunk with no UAT, but have not acctually seen any posts, if I went this route it would help imensly with moving the C of G back.

So has anyone done this?

Mike,
in a number of my jets, I have no UAT (Sprint, Baby Boomerangs, Rookie II) and I have never had a problem related to that ! I'm using the felt clunk delivered with JetCat engines

Hi Carsten,

My jet Cat engine did not come with a felt clunk in the package.
Must be a Europe thing.

Carston and Stan

Thanks for your replies, if the jet cat felt clunk works OK without a UAT then the Orbit clunk which is a felt clunk sorrounded with a microfiber  membrane should work even better, this gives me some comfort to try without a UAT, will report back when I have tried it out.

 Hi,
you  could  also  try  the   Simjet  white  fibre   clunk, this  also   sucks  to  the   last  drop.

Have you tried the Simjet clunk. without a UAT, or are you trying to get me to be the guinee pig.

MIke

EDIT: do you have a pic of the Simjet clunk, so that I can compare the two.

EDIT: again? link to a pic of the Orbit clunk, its difficult to see but there is a plastic frame around the outside: http://www.zedjet.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=49

Hi,
No  I am  not  trying  to get you  to be  a  guinea pig  and  no  I have  not  tried it  myself  without  a  clunk. I used it  in a  Flash  set up   when I had tank problems  as it  was  recommended  by  the  guys @ West  London  models as being  very  effective  in  sucking to the  last  drop. I do not  have  a  photo  of it  as it  is inside  the   tank.
Just  trying to  help. Suggest  you  look  on  the  Simjet  site  if it  still  exists  or  talk  to  David  @ West London  models
Regards

David

My comment about the guinee pig was very tounge in cheek, I was not being sarcastic honest, by the tone of your reply it looks as though you took offence, I am sorry if I offended you and I will throw myself on my sword, next time I get it out to clean it.

the orbit one comes from Skill machines (lumbersaws)
the Simjet one from Husqvarna same machines..

the "orbit"ones work great , but they can get clogged up with dirt easely the membrane pickup is very small..
the simjet one is good also but very light and could cause issues..

i wentt back to basic and use heavy brass cluncs.
the UAT works both as a fine filter and bubble trap all in one..

Sandor

The point is to get rid of the UAT, its the easiest route to moving the C of G back on my Elan, as I have one of your tanks with the large front opening it would be easy to remove the Orbit clunk to clean it, I also filter my fuel twice before it gets into the tank so I think I would not have a problem with it clogging, although I do clean the clunk and inline filter after every ten flights or so, in fact thinking about it the fuel is filtered four times before it gets to the turbine.

Recieved the Elan legs from you to replace the Dreamworks one's thanks.

I maidened mine two weeks ago. I've logged two hours on it since then.
The new Jetcat P80se flys it very well. It's a nice balance of power and economy. 10 min flights leave me 25% of the tank for reserve.

I have a question for those of you that have used the Dubro tank made for the Elan.

In trying to get the plastic tube over the brass tube to extend the vent to the top of the tank I have managed to get it 3/16 of an inch by heating the plastic and pushing and twisting. I can not get it any further.

The plastic tube will not stay on very well and it is to hard to use a wire wrap on the plastic side to secure it.

What have those of you using the tank done to solve this problem?

Thanks
Stan

I did not know that Dubro made a tank for the Elan, can you show us a picture of the tank and your problem.

If it is a Sulivan, I hope you got rid of the Sulivan so called gas stopper, they do break down and shread, I had one go in as little as two weeks, the only reliable stopper I have found for gas/petrol/Kerosene is the Dubro red/brown stopper, it has a raised 0 on the front face of it.

Notwithstanding the above  can you still show us a picture?

Mike

Mike,

This is the best image I could get with my camera.

The problem I am having is trying to get the plastic vent tube over the brass vent tube.  I heated the end of the plastic and streched it with a pair of needle nose pliers. The furthest I was able to get the plastic over the brass tube was 3/16".I worked on it for quite a while.

The plastic tube would come off the brass tube with little effort.

What I finally did was to take a 1/2" piece of tygon and slide it over both pieces. The tygon fit snug. I secured it using 3 pieces of wire. I believe it will hold. I am not really happy with this fix.

My question is directed to other users of the Sullivan tank and was wondering if they had the same problem with the plastic tube. If so I would like to know how they got around the problem.

Thanks,
Stan

I have the same tank. I did not use any brass tube for the vent, but used the plastic tube supplied. Just genfly warm it and put a 90 degree bend in it to take it to the top of the tank.

Has worked fine for me.

Peter

Just a quick question.

My latest Elan needs 2-3mm of up up trim to fly level!!!!

Cof G is at the forward recommened position. Very odd as previous Elans have been spot on.

Anyone else have this issue.

Peter
