Sgoen,

What batteries are you using and where are they located? I've installed two 6 cell Nmh 2300Mah packs just behind the pilots seats to balance. No added dead weight was necessary. I did scratch build a detailed cockpit interior and added a bomb bay...maybe adds a few ounces...all up weight dry = 21lbs.

I am using a 5200Mah batteru mounted on the bottom of nose gun area. Even by adding weight, I think I will still come in uder 21lbs.

Hi,

I reached page 13 of the build : MOUNT THE FIBERGLASS NACELLE COVERS

On step 1, it is said :
Use a pushrod sharpened on the end or a Dead Centerâ„¢ Engine Mount Hole Locator to mark the location of the three mounting screws for the nacelle cover into the bottom of the wing.

Then on step 2, it is said :
It is said : "Use a long #1 Phillips screwdriver to temporarily mount the nacelle cover to the wing with four #4 x 5/8" [16mm] Phillips screws, #4 fl at washers and #4 lock washers."

Where is the 4th screw ?
3 holes are described in step 1, and 4 screws in step 2.

Is it an error in the documentation ? I would like to avoid any mistake.
Thanks
Best regards
ML

I only had 3 screw holes for mine. I reread the instructions and it does say four, but I only found 3 holes.

ML,

Make certain that the nacelle is well centered on the firewall in the front and the distance from the fuselage is the same on both nacelle in the back once centered so it does not look akward. the screw holes should be filled with ca glue to avoid the nacelle to come off with vibration and force from the gear doors. Then you have 2 screws in the front and 1 in the back. The screws holding the top fairing will pierce through the wing to the nacelle adding grip to the back of the nacelle.

Thanks guy, so there is a mistake in the documentation. Only 3 screws are needed.
I saw the 3 holes, but I wondered where was the 4th !
See you

Be sure you're into the plywood inside the wing with your holes. On mine one missed slightly and I had to redrill the nacelle.

I have really benefitted from all of the expert comments and questions on this thread. This is a gold mine of information. Thank you gentlemen.

I received this plane from my wife for Xmas and decided to first practice with a Seagull Dual Ace before launching the B-25. I have a question about the B-25 on board battery, can I use two 1100 mah Nicd (5 cell) packs in parallel? This gives me the recommended 2000 mah and also adds the benefit of having a quasi redundant battery system. If one battery system (battery, switch, connectors, etc) should fail I would be dependent on the remaining 1100 mah system to get back home. I understand that this might be less than ideal but, it is better than the situation where you just have one system and it fails.

My plane will be pretty much as it comes out of the box with the exception of adding the Robart retract kit - I also like the idea of adding the retract failsafe switch and the gyro. My radio is a JR 9303 using XPS SS module and XPS 10 channel receiver and plan to use all analog HS 475 servos - although I have been considering the HS 5475 digital for the elevator.

All feedback about the battery question would be appreciated.

Hi Howard,

If you connect your batteries in parallel, if one cell one one battery fail, the second one will discharge in the first.
I intend to use this : http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAFM9&P=7
When the first battery is discharged, a led blink.

For the retract, I choose the Eurokit brand. First because I have already theses retracts. They fit. And with theses retracts, without pressure, the retracts are locked down.
To retract gears, it use air pressure.
To extend gears, it free the air. Then a spring locked them in down position.

In fact, I don't like robart retracts because of the pressure needed to extend (ok with the failsafe unit, the pb is corrected). And because the bottom of the retracts are in a (strong) plastic.

Best regards
ML

Howard,

the idea of 2 pack is excellent. the failure will not be from the battery in my opinion and will require you to have a separate connection switch on each battery for inspection as you will not be able to notice a failure in flight. Make certain that you have enough power because the 2.4gh receiver resets and stop receiving for about 2 seconds in flight...very long. I had the experience with my dual ace and it feels funny. The 5 cell is definitely the way to go with 2.4ghz. The receiver resets when reading less than 3.8 volts. 1100mah might not be enough when you have 4 servos from the flaps, 2 from the ailerons, 3 from the rudder 1 from the elevator and 2 from the throttle. sometimes you can be caught in a current draw that will exceed the capacity of 2 1100 mah battery. you should consider 2 x 2700 mah 6.0volt or a single 4000mah 5 cell. this will garantee you the current draw capacity at all time. the only way is to test with a "voltwatch" and look at the red light or simply a good digital voltmeter. that should give you the indication, better than any opinions. good luck.
