I have had a 969 pro for about 2 years now and it came with a slip of paper saying the lithium charging circuitry had been updated. I just recently purchased a maxamps 3s 5000 lipo and have charged with the 969 several times so far. I am using a astroblinky balancer. My problem is that the charge cycle terminates at 12.42v every time instead of 12.60v (4.2v per cell). I have verified the voltage with my fluke multimeter. This means that I am not getting full capacity into the battery. Is it a problem with my version charger and if I upgrade for $42 (still available?) to the 977 will it charge correctly?

Hi, and Welcome to RCU. I don't represent MRC, but they are nice enough to allow me to post.

You may get a variance between charger to charger, but 12.42 is considered full still. Many different brands will go well under 12.6 and some even under 12.4 volts.

Many consider 4.15 or so to be a good safe max and while you are correct about not being 100% full it probably will never be missed as it is probably over 95%.

ps Have you tried it without the blinky to see if it makes a difference?

Sorry for the delay in my reply, I was in Chicago for a week for the iHobby show, and am now trying to get caught up. Thanks Guver....Also, the 969 with conversion, and the 977 are set a little on the conservative side. This is due to the volatility in these batteries, and also electronic components have tolerances. Which means they could be +/- 5% or so on the component values. So to be on the safe side the cut-off is lower than the 12.6 volts. Guver is right in the fact that you're probably only losing less than 5% of the total capacity.
