Purchase a G26EI lite from Ralph at RC Ignitions and you will have the very best of both worlds, including a lifetime warranty on his work including crash damage. It does not get much better than that.

Dick,
I'm Planning on Buying My 1st Gas Engine a Zenoah G26 or G26Ei. Is it Hard TO COVERT G26 and ADD a CH Ignition conversion to the G26??? Is it ready to JUST bolt this ignition on a G26??? Where Buy one these or any other electronic ignitions? Is Current G26Ei still "need these modifications"??? If So it seems smarter to buy G26 and convert it? Gas R/C Engines are all New to Me!!! I Plan to put it on Aeroworks 72" YAK-54 I currently have 120 Glow 2 Stroke on. Or Buy New Magic Hand 73" Wingspan YAK-54 from Troy Built Models. Looking for Sound advice.

I recently had my first experience with gasoline engines and my first was is a G26EI in a Ultra Stick Lite. From all the experience I have with it (3) weeks and about 45 flights. It is a GREAT engine. Easy to start easy to tune and it seems to be a well built unit.

I ran the Zenoah supplied ignition for about 30+ flights with no problems besides high amp draw. I have a 2000mah battery and I could easily get 2 flights out of it. I usually just hook up the fast charger while fueling for a quick charge and I could fly over and over without a problem.

I recently purchased the CH ignition system for the engine, there are 2 advantages to there system over the stock. Longer battery life and there sensor has slots in it for timing adjustment. From the stock ignition to the CH ignition (timing adjusted) I had a increase in of approximately 300 rpm. I would say it would be possible to modify the stock sensor for timing adjustment if one wanted to, but you would still have current draw issues if more than 2 flights are wanted before recharge.

If you have any other questions I would be happy to help any way I can. you can contact me at

Bolt on means just that, no machining. Screw it together and set the timing and go lfy.
The CH conversion with battery weighs about what the Zenoah ignition by itself ...

Neither is a direct bolt-on operation, but you can handle either one.

CH ignitions are available directly from th emanufacturer. Do a Google search for CH Ignitions and order one.

OK, I got permission from my good customer antique to use his log in info...And will NOT do it again....
Pettit, there's enough BS floating around in here without adding to it..Anyone who writes for a magazine should maybe do a little research before posting false information...My conversions, the VERY FIRST ever done to the G26, are COMPLETELY plug and play...You do, however, have to plug the battery connector (supplied) into the side of the engine...the complete ignition circuit is built in to the rear engine case..The spark coil is relocated to the space behind the cylinder where the source coil was...The prop stud the sometimes breaks off at the crank is replaced by a two piece UNBREAKABLE hub that uses a grade 8 prop bolt...The carb is rotated on a 3/8 G10 insulator block..The carb comes with a small arm bolted on to the shaft at the bottom of the carb, close to the center line of the engine..PLUG AND PLAY....
I'm out of here ..

Sorry, but I was speaking about the CH ignition system which I have used on both the G-20 and the G-26.

I sent my brand new G-26EI to Bill Carpenter as soon as the engines were released by Horizon Hobby and he made up the replacement ignition.

It was NOT100% plug and Play, but easy enough for the average modeler to install.

Was it the first? I don't know, but it was the first one I had heard of and used on a running engine.

It was also the first one sent to me for review.

Just curious. I had CH Ignitions install their G26 conversion on my magneto engine. Basically they replaced the flywheel, sensor and added their ignition module (used the zenoah coil already mounted to the engine). How does the conversion for the G26EI differ?? Pictures would be nice.

The CH uses everything except the Hall Effect pickup.

Take that off, file or grind a little aluminum from the back plate (per the instructions) mount the new adjustable Hall Effect bracket.

Use the new CH ignition box that uses 300 milliamps rather than 2.2 amps when the engine is running.

IN REGUARDS TO THE G26EI, WHICH I HAVE INSTALLED ON MY PLANE. THE BOX INCLUDES INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE VAGUE. THE CARB AND TWO DIFFERENT SPACERS TOWARD THE MOTOR WILL DRIVE U NUTS, AS WELL AS THE WAY INWHICH YOU HAVE TO MODIFY OUT OF THE BOX. THE THROTTLE ARM INCLUDED IS HUGE AND BOOK SAIYS TO REMOVE THE STOCK ARM WHICH IS A PRESS FIT AND REPLACE WITH WHITE PLASCTIC ONE. THATS FUN TO DO. THEN YOU HAVE THE TWO SPACERS. ONE LOOKS LIKE A FOOTBALL(FROM FACTORY) AND THE OTHER A BOX. THE BOX ONE PUTS THE THROTTLE ARM IN FUNNY POSITION, SO I PUT THE ORIGINAL BACK ON. EASY STARTING, AND LIKE INSTRUCTIONS SAY, ITS STARTS GREAT. BUT IF FOR SOME REASON THE VENT TUBE IS CLOSED LIKE MINE WAS ON MY TANK YOU STARVE THE THING. I RUN IT UPSIDE DOWN AND THE HIGH AND LOW SCREWS ARE ON TOP THE ARM FOR THE THROTTLE IS HORIZONTAL AND THE LITTLE HOLE FROM THE MOTOR TO THE "FOOTBALL SPACER" LINES UP WITH THE CARB HOLE. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!! WONT GO PAST HALF THROTTLE. SPUTTERS AND UNLESS THROTTLED DOWN, IT DIES. TRYED THE NEEDLES BUT NO CHANGE. SO........ NOW WHAT? PETTIT MABE YOU KNOW?

Sounds like your carb might be on backwards. Looking through the carb throat you should be seeing the head of the screws that hold the butterfly in place, if you are seeing the screw threads it's on backwards.

FOUND MY HALF THROTTLE PROBLEM....... WHEN I WOULD RUN IT UP TO HALF THROTTLE IT WOULD BOGG. WHAT I FOUND THE THING NEVER SHOULD HAVE STARTED!!!!! I HAD THE CARBURATOR 180 UPSIDE DOWN.!!!!!! MOTOR UPSIDE DOWN, THE CHOKE IS POINTING UP THATS CORRECT WAY, NOT WITH THE CHOKE POINTING DOWN.
