Well No plane yet !!!!

Mike,
I have a question about the RX /Servo battery setup.
I'm going to run 2- A123 batterys (2p-2300mAh) for the RX / servos. I have read that you don't have to regulate them just plug them in to the RX.
I cant find any spec. on the HD JR switchs. can they handle 7-10amp draws from the Servo's.
and what conector setup (deans - JR in to switch to RX) I see that Fromeco has some nice switchs and Sin city jets has a HD JR style switch with 18g. wire.
any thoughts and pictures would be great.

Mike -

I just wanted to say WOW! I'm building two of these for customers of our local hobby shop. Building really is not the right term. I wish everything was this easy!

One question for you - the manual calls for an 58-85 engine. Have you had any experience or testing with this plane and the Evolution 58? The specs describe about a 1HP different between a DA-85 and the Evolution 58. Thinking it might still fly fairly well with the 58. Did you test this combo? Would it pull out of a hover?

Thanks a million - This is a great product and everything is top notch! Just love the pilot figure!!

The Evo 58 can throw a 23" prop and the DA-85 throws a 27" prop. No comparison.

dubd -

I have got an Evo-58 and I am currently flying a 24x10 with a pitts-style muffler. The manual calls for up to a 26" prop. I have read several places that with a can/pipe, this motor really produces the horsepower. It currently is in my heavy (about 20 lb) 30% yak now and it flys overpowered. I realize the motor is no DA-85, but I think an 85 in a 33% plane is overkill anyway. A lot of guys at my field are now using the 85 in 35% airplanes and they still are unbelievable. Was just hoping to get Mike's take on if they did any testing with the Suk and the Evolution 58...

Thanks

I havent flown the Suk with the 58 so I dont have any real world experience there. With the ppwer I've seen from the 58, I think it'll fly it well, but nowhere close to the power from the DA-85.

A couple of quick questions that I do not see in the thread

What if any is the header drop needed with the DA85

I am assuming the can is the MTW110 and not the MTW110K (which I have already)

I'm ordering my 85 and 110 from Airwild and they did not know which header drop was required for the SUKI. I told them that MM had developed the system with DA and the guys at DA would know what the SUKI needed but when airwild got back to me they said the guys at DA had no clue what they were talking about. There seems to be a lot of confusion on this.

Mike I guess we would all appreciate if you could fill in the blanks. thanks

Mike - I completed this airplane with the acceptation of the pipe and all I can say is nice job man. Everything was bolted together and all travel adjustments made in less than 10 hours. I am not a fast builder, but I took the day off and finished it that same day. I feel this is a very easy airplane to assemble....

1. Can you please let us all know the header drop?
2. The manual specifies an MTW 100 can but you say you used the MTW 110. Was this a typo in the manual?
3. There are a lot of open holes up front that will let a lot of air into the fuselage. Should I cap off these holes with light weight balsa?

thanx/Bruce

The guys at DA told me, that Mike told them, that the header is a 12mm drop.
DA said they had put some on order with their vendor but it might be another month or so.

Is that 12mm correct Mike?

When I ordered my engine from DA, they told me use the flex 25mm drop header. I my self have only seen 3 different drops in headers, 0, 25mm, and 50mm. DA told me that you had to use the flex header, but were out of headers and 110 MTW canisters. Horizon told my LHS that a small shippment came in of Sukhois. Next shippment, end of March. I got ahold of a 25mm drop header, and MTW 110 canister from Troy Built Models, crossing my fingers that DA was right, as down loaded manual calls for MTW110 canister, not header drop. This should be put in the manual, or put a a setup sheet, for DA85 engine install. RICK
