The Sukhoi was not designed for a 100cc engine, and may have balance issues of the extra weight. Going to the Sukhoi as a first low wing 3d plane is asking for a big crash. No matter how much simulator time you have, these planes fly different for real. Hanger 9 has a lot of great 3d planes to get your feet wet first. If you have not handled gas before, a 85cc or 100cc is a lot of engine to start with. Just properly starting it, you need to know what you are doing.

RCWI, If your friend is confident about his flying and has a pocket book to support his 3D habit and can get over the stress of crashing why not go big! bigger flies better you can piss allot of money away on a 1.20 glow 3d plane or a 50 cc gasser. When you get into the 80-100cc class the wing loadings and airplanes perform 100 times better than their smaller counter parts. These size planes fly better all around. you do have allot to learn about managing a plane of this size for landing and taking off especially ground handeling, landing in cross winds, taxiing ect. I would suggest getting a 40" depron foamy to practice with or even a G4 simulator. What ever way your buddy decides its all about what he wants to do and what his ambitions are. I went from foamies and a funtana 100x to 102" QQ yak 54 and the airplane is phenominal. it flies like a big foamy you just have to respect it and learn its trates and habbits. Take the experiance 1 step at a time stick with 1 good big airplane and practice practice practice! rc3dflyr

Just finished the new Sukhoi and now have several flights on same. I have owned and flown all of the Hanger 9 33% planes over the past several years and the new Sukhoi with the new DA 85 is deffenitly different. First, I would not recommend any motor other than the DA 85 as far as power is concerned. The Sukhoi is very light and may be over powered if anything with the 85. This may not be a great choice for someone new to giant scale flying. The Sukhoi is altra responsive and ideally suited more for 3D flying than pattern flying. This is just my oppinion.

I just found a problem...It looks like the rubber stopper in my tank isn't for gas.....I noticed a leak around the front of the tank...After disassembling it, most of the stopper had been eaten away by the gasoline.....

The only guaranteed gas suitable stopper is the Dubro Red/Brown one with the raised "0" on the outer face, do not use the Sullivan gas stopper it will dissintigrate, there are other options but the easiest is the Dubro if you already have a tank set up.

Check the tray your throttle servos are connected to. Mine came off in flight and this has happened to others.

The plane flies great. I have about 20 flights on mine so far.

I have been flying my Sukhoi with a ZDZ Super 80. I lost my supersonic pitts muffler and purchased a Bisson pitts muffler. This is a nice looking muffler with a cool mounting strap feature and is fairly quiet. in fact it is quieter than the 50cc planes with stock mufflers. Even after this setup, I wanted to try a canister setup to try to quiet things down a even more. My first choice was the T-80 from RC showcase however this was way to big in diam to fit. I threw caution to the wind and orderd a header (25mm drop with a 30mm od) from RC showcase and an MTW 110 canister and a 30mm to 28mm coupler from DA. Everything fits perfectly no no problem what so ever. So far, I can not belive how much quieter thie engine is. This thing is no louder than a 60 size glow plane. Now I'd like to focus on prop noise. I want to keep a 2 blade prop due to the performance hit I'd take with a 3 blade. I am running a Vess 26A at 6490-6530 static depending on the weather. The tip noise is fairly loud so I thought about trying either a 26B or a 27A. I really don't know how these props would effect my RPMs or overall performance. What do you guys think?

thanx/B

B...
I'm running the ZDZ 80 Super with a JMB 32mm can and it's quiet as well. My prop is a Vess 26B and it tachs 6200 - 6300 static at 4000' asl. It's very noisey with the 26B so I'm looking at going with something quieter. I fly mostly IMAC so probably a 3 Blade of some sort.
Cheers,

Carbon Fiber props are known to run quiet, though they are heavier than wood and take longer to spool up the revs. Go to Troy Built Models and look at their selection of PT Models and Mejlik CF props.

My pitts muffler took a lot of power away... I was thinking of going to a can set up. Which cannister from rc showcase did you guys get?

Hi...
I'm using the JMB TR80 with the wrap around header. It won't fit in your tunnel(i'm using mine in an Aeroworks x260)
It's very quiet! Thanks for the prop advice Rick... i originally planned on a CF prop but then heard so many good reports on the Vess so that's why i tried it.
Cheers,

Andrew - I purchased a header from RC showcase and a coupler and MTW 110 canister from DA. It is a good combo and very quiet. I really wanted to use a TR-80 from RC showcase but I knew it wouldn't fit in the pipe tunnel. Whit that knowledge and my lack of desire to hack up my airplane, I opted for the can that was recomended in the manual. No regrets here.....
