Well completed the repair by re installing the right aileron. First lubed and epoxied the hinge points to the right aileron ensuring all was lined up. Once epoxy set I cleaned and re lubed the hinges them selves and using a 'Q' tip added epoxy to the access holes in the wing trailing edge and then twirled the Q tit around the exposed hinge points which left a Cotton epoxy mixture which will fill any gap in the hinge access holes. I then inserted the right aileron back in place, carefully aligning the aileron with the trailing edge. Now waiting for the epoxy to cure; once its cured will check to make sure the aileron is free in motion-

If not----->there will not be enough Rum in the Caribbean to drown my sorrow!!

It needs the flush rivets added and the gear bolted back in place then I will be back at the field and flying it again being VERY careful not to "clip the wing again---I can laugh now...

A friend at our flying field discreetly pointed out that the 47 had the "star and bar on both under surfaces of the wing so I ordered a stencil from Gary@ www.gary@getstencils.com and will spray the white on today dependent on the weather;then will apply the excellent graphics that Gary made up for me a while back AND then back out to the field and will do my best to avoid those PVC poles that make up the individual pilots stations at our great club field

Richard I don't think all the JUG's had the stars and bars set up some of the books I have show the S&B on one wing side top and bottom and some have then on oppisite sides of the wing on the top and bottom it doesn't seem to have a set pattern, the P-47's fighting in europe were swapping parts so frequently that there wasn't alot ryme or reason to the markings exept having the right tail colors and some black and white stripes.

as a side note one of our club members was in England working on planes durring WWII,and when I brought my JUG in to the club meeting, he said the invasion stripes I had painted on my plane were just a little to nice, the day before the invasion the comander told them to start painting, they got all the planes done but they were a far cry from the neet work done on some of the models we all do,they were up all night getting the work done on the 5th of june.

Thanks for the feed back bigtim mine has the stars and bars on both left and right on the bottom wing. finishing up the star and bar as pictured was no party as the painting order was supposed to be blue as opposed to the white pictured and THEN adding the next mask and spraying the white, which became apparent when I went to lay down the second paint mask... Alls well that ends well though,as I taped every thing out and it came out satisfactory-While the Jugs been down I removed the right flap and re aligned it and now I'm adding the 'correct size' kill markings and other markings such as USAAC serial numbers and all that jazz, using stencils previously mentioned. Fact is its time to move on,clearing the bench of the wing that currently occupies it and bring down my"under construction" 80's vintage Tiger Tail IV glass and foam pattern ship and get it to the paint stage ASAP as the (last one) was a joy to fly

The repairs have long been completed and I finally got some bigger transport to haul it around here is a picture or two I test flew it last Sat. and landed on the grass strip rather than the paved run way wishing not to hit the pilots station PVC poles again...
