Hey Guys,

Heres what I plan on putting together in this plane. A Matt Chapman .40 size Cap 580

OS Max .91 - 4 stroke
Hitec 645 on all Elv, Rud, and Ail
Futaba 3003, 3004 or something similair for the throttle.
Battery - 1200mah 6v.
Futaba 9C super
Receiver - R149DP

Any suggestions or comments on the above would be appreciated. Is this .91 4 -stroke too big? I want the vertical power to an extent, but I don't want to rip the plane apart. Also I want to keep it light and already knowing that the plane slightly on the heavy side to begin with, I know that this might be hard possibly with a .91 4 stroke. Should I change engines. If money was No problem what would the best combination be? I don't mind buying more equipment or engines. I have a U Can Do 3D 60 as well with a .90 Super tiger that runs like crap. I could put the OS Max .91 4 -stroke in that instead.

I remember years ago having a Super Sportster which I had a OS Max .60 in. It flew kind of like a rock, it would take off and fly, do all the moves and land OK. However Deadstick, "Yikes" the plane became a flying brick. The .60 was way to heavy in the nose even though it was balanced. It had very short distance it would fly before it was down on the ground. I replaced it with a OS Max .46 and the plane became awesome to fly, it was nimble and quick and just a lot of fun. Loops, Rolls etc. very sweet. Landings and Take-offs were great. Deadstick, the plane would float and was easy to control and the flight path could be stretched out to get the plane back the land it on the runway without any mishaps. I do not want to repeat this process with the Cap 580 by installing the OS Max .91 4 stroke when maybe the ideal engine is an OS Max .60 2 stroke or some other engine instead.

Let me know what you guys would think the best set up would be.

G'day Mate,
In my humble opinion, the 91 is too much, try an OS 55AX, will be one great flying plane with that combo.

i have a cap by great planes , it is absolute joy to fly . i have an os fs 70 in mine , swinging a 12/6 zinger , it has as much vertical as i need , what i mean is it does eventually run out of steam and stall , but by that time it is about as high as i`d like it to be . a buddy of mine has the same u can do with a saito 100 in it and it seems to be a good setup

Ditto... The 55AX is the best engine for .40 size performance planes.

For the best power to weight ratio get the most Umph you can find within the weight of recommended engines. I put an os 91fx on in place of a 60 because it was built in the same case and was only an ounce or so heavier. increasing the wiehgt of the plane beyond that will cost you in low speed manouvers IMHO

I see what your saying and I agree. Thats whay I am going with the OS .91 - 4 stroke. The weight difference on them is not much different yet there is much more Torque and power from the .91 4-stroker.

The OS Max .61 2 stroke - Weight: 19.4oz, 23.6oz w/muffler

The OS Max. 91 4 stroke - Weight is 22.6oz, 24.2 oz w/muffler

The .91 4-stroke is about an ounce and a half more.

I have a Cap 580 40 size powered by a .75 AX OS two stroke. It fits in same space as the .60 OS two stroke with gobs more power. I run a 13x4 wide or sometimes a 13x6 Pattern prop and I like the combination. The 13x4 wide turns 12600 rpm. My only complaint about the 580 is it drops like a brick when landing, so I use some power to bring it in. Good luck with yours. Another good choice is the Saito .82 four stroke.

honestly if it were me i would sue a 4 cell pack idealy a smaller celled one keep wight down as for engine and cost was not an issue i would go with a jett (http://www.jettengineering.com/) very vyer expensive engine but runs like no other has the power that nothing else can touch.

Ed,

I was thinking about doing the exact same setup on this plane. I have a brand new OS 91 Surpass I and was wanting to get either the Great Planes Cosmic Wind Minnow (which will take the 91 no problem) or the Chapman CAP 580 .40 size. I have the 91 on the shelf (as I said) and thought that I'd put it in the 580, but was concerned that it may be too big. What did you decide to do with yours? I guess I could sell my .91 and purchase either a 70 or 82, but I think I'll for sure use a 4 stroke (I just love the sound of them). Your input would be appreciated! Thanks!
