Ok question........ I have a LiPo Battery at 11.1v and 2000 mah in an eflite plane..... I am wondering if its ok to use a 7.4v 4800 mah battery instead?

Thanks Jon

Jon:

First check the motor rating and see if it will handle 4 cells, regardless of the voltage. Then check the controllers specs. If the motor is ok, you still may need to use a CC-bec, Castle Creations has a good new one out. Stuff is getting tricky.

unless I am wrong I think he wants to go from 3 cells to 2 cells, and from 2Ah to 4.8Ah. The total weight difference (assuming the same energy density between the packs) will be 160% of the 3s pack. The motor and the ESC will probably run on a 2s, but you'll want to check it for sure like rmenke was saying.

The other thing, and you'll probably have to just check it out, is that the plane isn't going to fly nearly as well, less voltage and more weight is gona make the plane alot more sluggish. If it's a sporty plane, it will still fly most likely, but it wont be very sporty, and it will have longer flight times. If it's something that is having a hard time staying in the air now, then likely you will not be able to run it on a 2s lipo in place of a 3s

Also, due to the decreased voltage, amp draw will also decrease. To get some of the 'sportiness' back you can but a bigger prop on it to get the amp draw back up. It is best if you have a watt meter when doing this to ensure nothing exceeds its limits.
